CZ 512 - Cleaning and assembly
« on: July 01, 2018, 10:53:17 PM »

I recently bought a CZ 512 and love it, have fired 200 rounds of 22WMR CCI HP rounds and no malfunctions, am having to adapt to shoot full lefty as I have issues with my right eye.

One question I have is what is the best cleaning kit for this rifle and also should there be a Retaining Tool for the Springs in the box ?

I couldn't begin to tell you which is "best", but I would suggest you start your search in the .17 or .20 Caliber Rifle Kit ballpark. My .22 rod won't even think about going past the chamber on my 452's and 455's.

I just picked up my 512 as well, but haven't had a chance to go shoot it yet.  I did, however, pull the trigger group apart to stone out the roughness of the trigger/sear contact areas.  Those things are a boooger to put back together!
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer.

From the CZ-USA website...

Quote
Q: ?I?ve heard you use tight bores in your .22s, is that right? What does that mean??

A: Our 22 LRs use our cold hammer forged and lapped barrels, and are built a bit tighter than many other guns. In 22 LR we run a .211 bore, which is one of the reasons our .22s are known for incredible accuracy. This also means that a .17 or .20 rod and jag are required for cleaning, since a .22 rod will be too large.

Additionally, use of .22 Short, Long and ?Sub-Sonic? ammunition isn?t recommended because of the tight bore. This is not to exclude quality match or target ammos, which may remain sub-sonic in speed

This is why you need a smaller cleaning rod or bore snake.

I am going to look at some of those,  I figured at the very least I could use a coat hanger to do the trick but I hate using crappy substitutes.

I love the 512 American everyone at the range is impressed with it and it looks great.

I just need to learn how to keep it clean and pristine looking for a long long time.

I am starting to get the hang of shooting full lefty after some trial and error, am starting to get <1 inch groups at 50 yards and 1.5 inch groups at 100yards.

I bought a Bushnell scope as well, so all in all I am very pleased with this rifle.

I would think a .22 bore snake would work just fine.

I use a .17 rod specifically for my CZ .22's ...the OTIS small breech .22 bore brush is a direct fit (5x40 thread)
