Issues with suppressor alignment
« on: July 03, 2018, 07:50:26 PM »
I got my PTP Ranger out of jail a few weeks ago and was unable to get it to group with my carbine. Since I also got my form 1 back I decided to see how it would do once I installed a new CZ pistol barrel. Same result. I have tried 6 different bullets, both my loads and factory. With some loads I get it to group 1 1/2" - 2" at 25 yards which is well within spec but 5 - maybe 8" suppressed. So same results with both barrels. I then tried it on a friends Ruger with pretty much the same results. So it sounds like an issue with the suppressor. It does appear to maybe have some baffle touches or hits. So we tried a new piston. Same result. Then swapped out the monocore with a new one. Same result. So now I'm not sure if it's the suppressor or the gun. I've tried three barrels and all new suppressor components.

Has anyone had or heard of any issue with the barrel not being square and resulting in a baffle hit or decrease in accuracy with a suppressor?

Doesn't make sense. 2 different barrels with 2 different suppressor set up' and getting the same result?  On some suppressors there's  a point of impact shift but that's usually consistent and can clock your can so it always the same but that wouldn't throw the bullets all over the target.

Wait, you're not using a piston / booster on your evo are you?   In any case never run a boost on a fixed barrel and you should have an alignment rod to check bore alignment. A drill rod is under $10 on $bay

Have you checked it with an alignment rod?  That is the FIRST STEP before pulling the trigger on ANY gun/suppressor combo.

You can get rods from CNC warrior for $20.

Also what Asylum9 said.  You are using a fixed barrel spacer/removing the Nielsen device correct?

I've had a suppressor with an unsquare mounting face, the bullets just barely grazed the endcap. Not enough to damage the endcap or even make a mark, but it made 5" groups at 35 yards, all in slant pattern.

Issue was fixed, now it will put them all in the same hole.

Get a bore rod, and you'll find you issue.

I'm not familiar with your suppressor but why are you using a piston on a fixed barrel? Can you get it direct mounted somehow? YMMV.

I'd have to imagine you have baffle strikes on your new monocore, correct?

I said piston but that is not correct. I changed out the piston for use with a pistol for a fixed version for a rifle. I was going to give my barrel to a gunsmith to check the shoulder but may try analignment rod first. I?ll look at the options you have given me.

Thanks

I agree it doesn?t make sense. That is why I am kind of stuck with what to do next.

I looked on eBay without luck so far. How do you find a .354 drill rod?

Wow, awesome John, thank you. I will order Monday.

The gunshop gave me a new monocore to try. I shot five shots with the same result. There was a spot where it looked like it might have been touched or grazed. I then swapped my original back in it. I was going to give my barrel to my gunsmith to have him check the shoulder but I?ll try this first. It?s nust strange that I?ve had three barrels and new suppressor guts with the same results so haven?t really been able to narr W down what the issue is.

If you need help or keep having problems with it I can take everything and put it in a lathe to asses/fix what is wrong with it. Lord knows I don't get on here as much as I used to but I have probably threaded more barrels than just about anyone else.

So I got the .348 rod and it fits through the suppressor fine but does not fit into the barrel. Isn't the purpose here to slide the rod down the barrel and then screw the suppressor on to see if it lines up?

Maybe also try inserting the rod into the barrel without the silencer attached just to see if it fits. It's possible the your barrel threads are not concentric to the bore therefore.
