What's Your Preferred 9mm Bullet? 115, 124 or 147?
« on: July 06, 2018, 11:47:03 PM »
There are a lot of 9mm bullets to choose from:
- Brand name like Sierra or Hornady
- No brand FMJ and JHP, like from Evergladesamm.com
- Cast bullets
- Acrylic coated cast bullet

Then there are shapes:

- Standard RN
- Flat point
- JHP
- Hollow base

YouTube personalities like Hickock45 prefer 124gr 9mm.

What's your preferred weight (115, 124, 147), shape (RN, JHP, FN) and type (jacketed, plated, lubed or acrylic coated) of 9mm bullet for reloading?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Precision Delta 115 grain hollow points.  These shoot very good groups in every CZ 9MM we have.

I've tried 124 grain LRN, 147 grain plated hollow points, 124 grain plated hollow points, 124 grain hollow points, 147 grain LTC and 140 grain LSWC but none of them stacks up to the PD 115's, so far.  I'm still trying different powders.  I also have some 123 grain coated lead bullets I've not yet tried.  Brands are Berry's, Nosler, Missouri Bullet Co., Rainier, Summer's Enterprises, Zero bullets and one or two others I can't quite remember right now.

Bought some different powder a few months back and may buy a different type this morning at the gun show.

Maybe my standards are too high.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

My main bullet I used for a long time was the Xtreme 135 RNFP @ .356, really great bullet & super accurate out of my CZs but I'm cheap and found other 135s for less that shoot just as good.I have tried most styles and shapes weights but always come back to the 135s. They are a great balance of everything I like no matter what powder/load I use. I buy 135 RN .356 HyTech Coated from both Gallant & Summers Ent and both shoot excellent out of all my guns so again what I can find cheapest,,LOL  I also get 148 cast RN bullets from a buddy that we powder coat & those really work great also but typically find myself leaning towards the 135s. I've tried to convince him to get a 135 RN mold but no luck,,,"yet"  ;)

I would have to give you a dozen different bullets to cover the bases for what I have done, do, and might do with 9mm.  I pick bullets for a specific use in a specific gun, not simply a specific caliber.  If the specific use calls for 9mm, I'd still need to know the application to choose which pistol to use, then from the pistol give you the bullet weight, profile, and type for that application.  ;)

For plinking, matches and just practice in general, I use Eggleston 124gr conical bullets

They're not the best, but I get them really inexpensively and they feed and shoot well enough

If I want the very best accuracy, I've been using PD 124 JHPs

I like 124/135gr plated, 124/125/130ge coated for range and 124gr JHP for SD/HD.
My favorite JHP bullet is Hornady XTP.

I have tried numerous weights but I have used 124/125 extensively. Plated,FMJ and coated have all worked well.

I like the TJ Conevera 125 JHP as they are very accurate but they tend to get expensive if you do a lot of shooting.

I am currently on my second 1000 of the 135 RN from SNS Casting and I have no complaints with them. The 135 seems to shoot soft, knocks down steel well and is accurate too.

Have you tried the 135gr RN from Missouri Bullet. They call it the IDP#8. You can get them Hi-Tek coated or lubed.

YES!  That's the only 135 that I can get the accuracy from that I am accustomed to.

I also liked the test batch of the TJ .356" 125 gr JHP,  but they aren't SD bullets and for the cost the Zero 125s (with conventional ogive) were at least as good..  The PD 124 JHP is my compromise.  The Zeros when available are very good for range and comp. in my pistols at around 130-132 PF.
