Which Optic?
« on: July 27, 2018, 02:49:55 PM »
I was a good optic for a Scorpion pistol. Something that is built well, small, but not too small. If an RMR sized optic would work, then that would likely be preferred. However, I may not mind going a little bigger. I've usually went went with Aimpoint or Trijicon, but for some reason I'm eyeing Vortex for this one.

I was looking at the Sig Romeo5 yesterday and they were $129 on Amazon. That said I have the Burris Fastfire on a pistol and have thought about that but it?s about $50 more. I?m still pondering.....

I do have the Vortex Sparc II on a Tavor which is very nice too. But for the price I think I?ll go the Sig Romeo 5 next time.

I was considering the Sparc II. However, the Sig Romeo caught my eye on PSA. I haven?t really ever heard much about it. You?

All of these seem ?odd? compared to an Aimpoint that can be left on for 3-5 years.

Aimpoint costs more than the others mentioned. That's part of the long battery life.

With a self illuminating RMR you never need to worry about batteries. I have one on my open pistol, 7 years old no problems.

1.5 power ACOG is very small and doesnt need batteries. This is what I have on my scorpion.

I have a FF3 on mine. I had one sitting around when I bought my Scorpion so I threw it on there. I like it a lot and have been using it in club matches. At some point, I'll probably upgrade to an RM06.

Primary Arms Advanced Red Dot.  For the $ it's tough to beat.

I liked that the Sig Romeo 5 had a 40,000 hour battery life.

My Eotech XPS2 battery goes dead just sitting in the off position for a year. Not too pleased with that.

I'm interested in the Romeo as well. Typically, it's been a turn-off for me for "branded" optics (Sig in this case, but really any gun manufacturer putting their name on an optic). The price is decent, although I see on Amazon sometimes it is $99.

Aimpoint would be me preferred, not sure I want to spend that much on this though. Maybe...

I have a Romeo 4, and feel it (made by Holosun) is best for how I will use it.

I like the 65 MOA circle around the dot.
It gives something to instantly lock onto and easily find the dot.
At distances of 12 yards and closer, the circle is about the same size as COM.
It makes combat shots Blitzkrieg fast.
For target shooting, the one MOA dot won't blot out the target.  The dot is only 1" at 100 yards.

I can expect 2-5 years battery life even if I don't turn it off.  Instant ready for home defense.
I just change them every year like the smoke detector.  If I forget and skip a year, no problem.

Here you go, just mounted one on mine. Not too big, not too small. Awesome for shooting steel quickly.

I'm rather interested in the Romeo 5 at this point. Seems like a decent optic for the money.

I have a C-More and a Vortex Razor on my PCC.  Like both, they are bright enough even in the brightest sunlight.  C-More is easier to turn on and adjust intensity than the Razor.  But Razor is smaller.

If I was buying another red dot for a carbine / carbine-pistol I would probably get the Trijicon MRO.  Ginormous field of view, easy controls, and reasonable size.

Love the MRO. However, that's out of this price range. I'm thinking of getting something on the cheaper end, and then maybe someday getting the MRO and keeping the cheaper thing as an extra.
