Issue with RIA MAPP TCM9R Compact
« on: August 02, 2018, 08:58:56 PM »
I picked up a Rock Island MAPP (Tanfoglio Witness-P Compact) in .22 TCM9R late last year and finally got a chance to have a range day and shoot it a couple months ago.  I am just now getting around to posting about this because work and life have been keeping me rather busy and I hadn't had time to do any research till recently.

I was having one major issue through out shooting two boxes of ammo through the pistol, which I did do a field strip, wipe down, and lube on prior to hitting the range.  I was having the pistol fail to fully go into battery about 85-90% of the time.  A small push with my thumb on the back of the slide and it would snick that last 1/8" forward under spring pressure each time.  I had no other types of failure, feeding from the mag (no nose downs or stove piping feed issues at all), ejecting, or otherwise.  My ejection was consistent and within in a fairly small area, but it was launching them a good 20-25ft away.  Because of this, I am thinking the recoil spring may be a tad too light, both failing to slow the slide enough on the reward stroke, causing the empties to launch so far, and not having enough strength to ensure the gun goes fully into battery.  The problem is, I can neither find the factory spring weight for the TCM9R models, nor can I find any options for +power springs for this application.  Anyone have any experience with similar issues, or am I best off e-mailing Martin at RIA and seeking assistance from the source?  Thank you in advance for any help anyone can offer.

First time I've heard of that particular issue with the MAPP 9r. Given the lifetime warranty it's always cheaper to have them fix it, either contact their customer service or you could join the 22 TCM KREW on Facebook and post your problem there; there's usually someone from Armscor keeping tabs there (sometimes Martin himself). I've heard that working with their customer service can be difficult sometimes, the Facebook route might be easier because it doesn't go home when it's shift is over.

I tried searching for the 22 TCM KREW on Facebook before and can't find anything, even though I have found mention of them on other .22 TCM forums and what not.  Not sure why but Facebook will not show anything other than a post on a different group referencing 22 TCM KREW by name.  Bit odd.  I have seen Martin on another RIA group on Facebook sometimes, but yeah, I'll have another go getting a hold of someone on FB.

That is odd, that you can't find it by searching. This should take you right to it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1412813795646731/

Which TCM ammo are you running in the gun?  The original 22 TCM armscor released was designed to be used in their 1911 pistols and rifles.  Once the Glock 22 TCM conversion came out people had feeding problems as the round was too long. This led to armscor creating a 22 TCM 9R bullet that was shorter which cured the feeding issues. The RIA MAPP was designed to run the shorter TCM 9R round. Hope you get it sorted out.

I was familiar with the differences in ammo already, thanks to owning a TCM 1911 and rifle, and working in firearms sales myself.  I made sure I had picked up a supply of the TCM9R ammo for the MAPP, and not standard TCM that I have for the 1911 or rifle.  That was what made this issue all the more odd to me.  ???

Thank you sir!  That link worked, and I applied to the group.  I tried searching FB again after just to see, and it still won't show the group.  Makes no sense at all.  ::)

I have the exact same issue with my mid-size MAPP. I mean, exact same issue. Did you get a fix??
