Before & After......
« on: August 04, 2018, 05:07:26 PM »
Always like trying something different, just thought I would share the results......did a Patina process on the brass grips  :)  I liked the plain brass, but it just seemed like it could be....well, a little more, so I had a vision  ;D  The colors that developed included: purple, blue, green, & sub-dued brass.

AFTER

How will you keep it at that level/intensity?

As brass oxidizes it gets darker/greener.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Like doing a rust-bluing finish......to stop the rusting/corroding process use a small amount of medium like an oil or WD40..... it will stop the process and preserve it in its current state. I just sprayed a small amount of WD40 on these and wiped them down....doesn?t make the grips slick at all.

Awesome.
What process did you go through.

Quite ballsy to do that to a really expensive set of grips.

Quite ballsy to do that to a really expensive set of grips.

Ammonia soaked paper towels with table salt shaken onto the paper towel then the grip placed grip side down onto the paper towel and then put it in a zip lock freezer bag. The fumes help with the process so don?t just leave them in open air. I checked it after about 2 hours and then after about 8. There were some spots that weren?t corroding quite like I wanted so I added some additional ammonia and salt to get it working a little more to my liking. In all I left them to patina (sounds better than corrode ;D) for about 24 hrs.

And.....yes, it was a leap of faith, but then again it was a somewhat calculated risk. Can?t say I knew exactly what the result was going to be but was open to being a mad scientist for a bit.....emphasis on the mad part  ::)

Cool.

So whenever I have seen brass corrode to green I see physical buildup of the oxidation. Did you get that? Brush it off and  underneath is still green?

They come back in stock pretty regularly.

Just check back. They will post the date that they will do their next production run and you can visit the site and place an order.

Order extras for future guns.
