New 97BD Mag trouble?
« on: August 10, 2018, 09:07:24 PM »
Got my 97 BD 2 weeks ago, and shot it last week for the first time.
Both magazines were not wanting to snap into place. Enough so that I had to heel smack them VERY hard to make them seat. So hard that the slide released one time.
I?m not new to CZs, having had a 40b, P01, and  Rami. I?ve never had this problem before.
What?s the preferred method to tweak them to fit?
Plus, I just got the decocker pro package in the mail this afternoon! Fun times ahead....!

If everything else seems fine, (no marring, no misfires, any weird wear) I would consider taking the magazine catch out and filing a hair off the top of it where it catches the mags.
I'm not a gunsmith though, so hopefully someone else offers some insight.

DO NOT modify anything yet. I have never had any such issue with my 97 or any other of my CZ's for that matter and mags snap in nicely. I'd run several hundred rounds through the gun and see if the mags wear in and loosen up. If not I would contact CZ-USA and let them handle it under warranty.

I would run the mags a while or pop them in and out a bunch of times and examine the magazine body for marks. I would also make sure that the base plates are not bottoming out on the bottem of the grip frame.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I agree to not modify anything in the event you want to send it to CZ for warranty. I also picked up a 97 bd 2 weeks ago and both the magazines slide in and snap into place nicely, just like my 75.

What bullet are you shooting?  With round nose profiles and a full magazine the nose of the top bullet crashes into the slide and requires extra force to seat the mag.  I run SWCs because they require less force when seating full mags plus they shoot lights out in my 97BD.  I haven't found it necessary to modify anything on my 97BD and I appreciate the autoslide forward "feature" when jammin home a mag.

If I did anything I would try modifying the magazine follower to allow the magazine spring to compress further when fully loaded.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks for all of the replies.Tdogg , I was shooting some  Sig Elite performance ammo, but I WAS shooting a 100 round box of federal champion aluminum ammo from Wally World on another guys recommendation for good cheap plinking ammo.  Thanks for the heads up. I didn?t shoot a full mag of the Sig ammo and don?t remember if it was problematic...

This simply means the followers are not gliding freely inside the mag.

Clean the followers and lube them somewhat as described here:(https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=97865.msg765217#msg765217)
