P120 vs SPo1 2018
« on: August 17, 2018, 09:17:18 AM »
Age old question....?

I have the opportunity to bargain for a used SPo1 with 50 rounds through it. I can buy a P120 for the same price new.  Im torn.  I always wanted the P120 as I couldnt justify a new SPo1 but a barely used one for close to new price for the P120 makes me think.

I read through the previous posts on CZ vs Tristar posts and still cant decide.  Stupid decisions like this drive me crazy.

Thanks for any opinions and replies.

I own several CZ s and also Tristars. Biggest appeal for me with the Tristars is the price point. Outstanding pistol for the money! that being said, at the same price point for what are both essentially new pistols(50rds isn't even broken in),  I'd buy the CZ. More aftermarket parts and manufacturer support. I do own a Tristar P120 and have NO complaints or issues and was able to easily "Cajunize" it with upgraded springs and pins. I actually own a P100 also and like it better than the P120 for what that is worth. Go with the CZ. You won't regret it. And finally, who in their right mind would ever want to sell a CZ after only putting 50 rds through it?!?!? Every single person I've handed my CZ75 to at the gun range to try has loved it and wanted to know where to get one. Even converted a Glockhead to CZ.

If I could buy a SP-01 with less then 100 rounds through it for under 400 bucks (what you can buy a P-120 for) I wouldn't even be asking anyone's opinion Id be jumping on it.

The P120 is a real nice gun too however.  good luck hope its still available for you!!!!

Buy the SP01, now!!!  :)  :)  A deal like that will probably not last long, either.  He who hesitates, usually loses!

While you can't go wrong with either Pistol, price makes the Cz SP01 the better deal and 100 rounds is almost nothing, in terms of wear, to either.

Maybe you don't like the extended beavertail of the SP01. Maybe you like the flat serations of the P120 better (I do).  Maybe you like the steel guide rod of the P120...

Get the SP01 while you can; are you nuts!  You can always trade it for a NIB Tristar plus a case of ammo later if you hate it.

I?ll say it since no one else has - buy both.

Seriously though, I like my P120 I would have grabbed an SP01 if they were the same price due the factors everyone else has mentioned.

I've owned Tristars and they are great pistols especially for the price, but I would definitely buy the SP-01. You'll be happier with it. If you don't  like it you can always get your money back out of it. From my past experience, you'll have a hard time getting your money back out of a a Tristar. At least that was the case where I live.

One more echo for the SP01 ..you can always sell it and get you you paid for it, if you?re the one out of a million who doesn?t like it ; )
I have both, they are both reliable, comfortable, quality guns, the SP01 is just a far better firearm, trigger especially.

So I ended up going to the only store I know that actually has both pistols.  After holding them I decided the SP01 just seems more of a polished gun to me.  If I had the money I could see grabbing both but I'm going to focus my sights on the SP01 for the time being and if I cannot get one for a bargain price I might still pull the trigger on the P-120.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Now wait just a minute here!  >:(

Our answers were predicated on actually having a choice between a gently used Cz SP01 at a bargain price and a new TriStar P120.

If a TriStar P120 is what you can afford, it's not a bad way to go.

If a TriStar P120 is what you can afford, it's not a bad way to go.

At this moment, I do have the choice between a gently used Sp01 (50 rounds through it) vs buying a new P-120.  The Sp01 is on a used gun website I have bought many pistols off of, yet there is an art to acquiring a deal.  So I may or may not get this particular Sp01 with the goal price of +/-$400.  If I buy a P-120 I will buy it at the store I went to so I can support the local store.  I went to this store to compare them, talk about them with the staff and so forth.

So I'm not considering buying the Sp01 at the store, only the P-120.  The P-120 I can buy anytime, but the Sp01 is a deal that may come and go.
