HK VP9SK FDE

Apologies if I should've posted this in the range report thread.  I wasn't sure if it was only for CZ's so I posted this here instead.

Work has kept me away from the range more than usual lately so last Saturday, between loads of laundry and otherwise preparing for the next business trip, I found an hour to take a new HK VP9SK FDE out for a test run.

30 rounds, Geco 115gr FMJ, 7 yards

As usual, all-over-the-place while figuring-out POI and best sight picture during the first two magazines.  The pistol feels absolutely great, though, like an extension of my shooting hand.  Surprisingly, it was just as comfortable to shoot either with or without the pinky-finger extension on the magazine.  Trigger is a tad heavier than my Walther PPQ's but has a crisp break and a short but not ridiculously short reset.

Heck, it always takes me at least one box of ammo to get warmed-up after being away from the range for several weeks.  I put the VP9SK away for a few minutes and ran a box of Fiocchi thru my CZ Shadow 2.

50 rounds, Fiocchi 115gr FMJ, 15 yards

The Shadow 2 is just effortless even when I'm mag dumping with it.  I always thought the Browning BDA (rebadged Sig P220) I bought in 1981 was the most accurate 9mm pistol I ever owned but the Shadow 2 really out-does it by a considerable margin.

OK, now back to the VP9SK.

50 rounds, Fiocchi 115gr FMJ, 7 yards

I really can't explain it.  Taking a break to shoot the CZ Shadow 2 must've been a good idea, either that or the VP9SK just really likes Fiocchi ammo.  Whatever it was, that's about as good as I shoot any sub-compact 9mm pistol at 7 yards with factory ammunition.

While the paddle magazine release will take some getting used-to, I can't find many faults here.  I didn't think anyone could build a pistol as comfortable to shoot as a CZ but, it seems HK has been able to get pretty close to it with the VP9SK.  I'm impressed!

I'm starting to like it, too.  It's just different but, I can definitely see the advantage of not having to adjust my grip to release the magazine.

Thanks!  I like it so much I picked-up another one today.  Found a black, used one LNIB it at my LGS and if it has been fired at all, it sure wasn't very much.

Thank you for posting the pictures and your comments.  The VP9SK just made my wish list.

You're welcome!  I figured that this would be a great CCW pistol until CZ comes out with a sub-compact version of the P-10.  I really like it.  As I mentioned previously, the pistol is comfortable and pleasurable to shoot.  It has the potential for excellent accuracy if the user does his/her job.

Finally was able to pick-up the new-to-me black VP9SK and had a chance to take it to the range for a good function test.

7 yards, 25 rounds, Winchester White Box 124gr FMJ

7 yards, 25 rounds, Sellier & Bellot 124gr FMJ

I've already put about 200 hundred thru my FDE and another 100 thru my black VP9SK.  Absolutely no difference between them, other than color.  I just shot kinda lousy today.  The fliers on the target using S&B 124gr FMJ was all me at my flinchy worst.

I've found that, so far, though, 124gr projectiles shoot point of aim and 115gr impact a couple of inches lower at ranges between 7-10 yards.  That seems pretty much par for the course.  My CZ's perform similarly.  So far, I'm getting the best overall accuracy from Winchester White Box 124gr NATO FMJ, with Sellier & Bellot 124gr FMJ a very close-second.  That's after a comparison between Geco, CCI Blazer Brass, WWB, S&B and Fiocchi in both 115gr and 124gr varieties.  Considering past experience with WWB in other guns, I was a little surprised.  I don't think I have ever claimed WWB shot best in anything I own.

Thanks!  I also got a Dara IWB holster that fits it like a custom-made glove.

I'm amazed by how well it conceals.  With the standard 10-round magazine (no pinky extension) it literally disappears under a polo shirt.
