How to get EVO in Blue state
« on: August 26, 2018, 11:03:10 PM »
Per my name, I'm in CT. Has anyone here picked up an EVO in a Blue communist state with AWB that prohibits the EVO? If so, how did you acquire it?

I presume the most common method must be purchasing through a dealer who has the license to manufacture items and they either put on blade handguards, fixed magazine etc but I was also wondering if anyone went the NFA AOW route by maybe just adding a VFG. That seems to me to be the easiest route but I'm pretty new so I could well be wrong.

Thanks everyone.

I think this is a first on this question so be patient and we will see if there is an answer. If you find a way that works please share it here you might be a first on this. I know there are a few Californians on here so maybe they'll have good information to share as well.

The way you described is pretty much what we in Comifornia has to do. I quickly read the Connecticut laws and its pretty much like here.

Let's say CZ just released a new scorpion version and I wanted badly.  So I have to contact an out of state 07 FFL that can do the modification to be compliant. Then shipped to my local FFL to do the final paperwork.

I did a quick search about CT laws and I found is pretty much the same as the current CA laws.

http://lawcenter.giffords.org/assault-weapons-in-connecticut/

Connecticut defines an ?assault weapon? as:

Any semi-automatic centerfire rifle, regardless of the date produced, that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following features:  1) A folding or telescoping stock; 2) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or other stock that would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing; 3) A forward pistol grip; 4) A flash suppressor; or 5) A grenade or flare launcher.
A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has:  1) a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition; or 2) an overall length of less than 30 inches

Since California is a large market, CZ-USA last year or so started to modify (as manufacturer) Scorpion and Bren to be California compliant. The only thing that CZ-USA had to do was swap the  mags, fixed the stock and made a fin grip. These are not shown in their website nor catalogue.

Here is a local Komifornia Big box gun shop. No pistol version since it not approved to be in the handgun roster (another non sense law)

08557  scorpion with extended handguard
08509 scorpion  carbine with faux suppressor.

You may ask your dealer if they can get theses particular models for CA.
Again double check with your local laws. I just spent few minutes looking a them.
I hope this helps

Thanks. Will do.

I think the issue is that there are not a lot of SOT2 interested in the EVO market and it will take an SOT2 to create the NFA AOW that is the EVO. The other guys that do the compliant mods are just Type 7 dealers so they can't create the AOW.

AR15 AOWs galore can be had because, well, it's an AR, and the market is huge.

I'll try and get in touch with a local SOT2 as I think that is the issue. I believe Delta Level Defense is as they create and sell AR15 AOWs in CT so they must be.

If I can convince them to take it on, maybe they'll have an expanded product line soon!

I'll definitely share if I get any traction with them or someone else.

Thanks for the info above. CA and CT are definitely commie twins. Not sure which is worse re guns.

Looks like Redplanet in Waterbury, CT offers the pistol at $1300 for what is essentially an OEM pistol with a pinned flashcan/barrel extension and free VFG.

https://www.redplanetarsenal.com/product-page/cz-scorpion-pdc

I will reach out to them and DLD this week for more info.

I am in not much better NJ, I got 16 inch Scorpion and my ffl pinned scorpion stock and shroud before selling it to me, I got 10/30 locked mags and that is all that I need to be low compliant in this blue state. End of the day it shots the same as any other Scorpion in red state :) Can?t get short version or suppressor however.
