New RAMI is VERY stiff
« on: August 31, 2018, 08:34:56 PM »
So, just brought my brand new RAMI home. The slide does not rack easily, or smoothly. The slide stop is incredibly difficult to release and so is the mag release. I stripped her down and oiled her up real well and it didn't help. Oh yeah, and the slide serration where the roll pin is has very sharp edges above and below the hole on both sides of the slide. Very uncomfortable to rack.

Is this normal? Should I expect it to just loosen up as she breaks in, or should I not shoot it and contact cz? I did find a little rust on one of the magazine springs.

You already have it oiled up. Just shoot it and it will break in. Mine likes to run fairly wet. Great little guns you will enjoy it.

CZ pistols usually come from the factory literally dripping or packed with cosmoline grease. Has yours solidified?

First thing I would do is remove the grips, field strip and soak the entire pistol in a bucket of Hoppes #9 overnight to dissolve all the grease from all the nooks and crannies (keep night sights above the surface).

Then let it dry out and then lube as normal and see if that loosens things up.

My RAMI was difficult to rack at first. It's a bit easier after firing about 200 rounds but factory springs are stiff for the pistol. I did replace most of the springs and installed a new trigger from Cajun Gun Works. Seems to have made a significant difference.

I picked up an ?18 RAMI a couple months back and it was the stiffest, tightest gun I?ve ever bought.

I stripped it down and cleaned off all the preservative, any light oil/solvent will work, I used ballistol and elbow grease.  Put it back together with a lot of oil, cycled it a few hundred times, and took it apart and thoroughly cleaned it again.   Lubed it as normal a took it to the range.

It was a lot smoother after the initial cleaning, but was really nice after 200 rounds.  It was also trouble free, not a single ftf yet, so I?m pretty happy with it.

Hope you enjoy yours!

The slide stop almost will not release with an empty magazine in gun.  Remove magazine, or insert a loaded one, and it gets possible, if not easy.  I have shot mine about 1,000 times, and it has loosened up some.  It will probably never work as easily as a Beretta 92 compact.  The rami is smaller, and all functions must work in a shorter distance.  I guess this is the reason.

Took it to the range and put 250 rounds through it. Shoots low left, but I am guessing it's me. I have large (xl glove) hands and it's hard to keep just the tip of my finger on the trigger, so I kept pulling it low left. Also, not a lot of real estate to get a good high and tight grip with my week hand. It ate up 124 gr winchester NATO, 115 gr winchester steel,  115 gr federal aluminum and 147 gr Remington with a couple FTFs, but only towards the end when the feed ramp got pretty caked up. Everything feels a little looser and smoother. I don't care for the long SA reset. I'm thinking some good palm swell grips, trijicon night sights and, maybe, short reset kit, and I may trust my life to it. Thanks for all the feedback from everyone, and bleep you Ross Weitzner for making me question everything and just wanting a shadow line instead. Happy shooting!

Glad it?s working good. It?ll loosen up in a bit. I sat in front of my tv just working the slide stop and that worked pretty good for me. As to the recoil spring, left it in the locked back position for a week or so and seemed to help with racking the slide.
Good luck in the search for Palm swell grips[emoji6] If you find some please share the link. The only ones I know of, were made by forum member BGlas.

Update, for anyone following who cares, after a thorough cleaning, I took her back to the range today and realized that it wasn't just me pulling off POA, so I adjusted the rear sight slightly and got it dialed in. After 200 more rounds of 115 gr federal brass, I switched to the 124 gr winchester nato and I couldn't hit bleep. Realized the extra sunk of the nato rounds caused the sight screw to back out a bit. I didn't have any loctite with me, so it just kept loosening, but at least I know I can shoot this thing dead accurate from 3 to 15 yards (the extent of the range I was at). I really like this little pistol.

Yup, slide release is stiff with empty mag. Either remove it or use loaded mag, depending on situation.

I didn't get a whiff of cosmoline, and having many milsurps, I know cosmoline. Like the magazine being completely full of it.

My Rami sights were dead on from the factory.  My rear sight set screw vibrated out, and left for parts unknown.  I called CZ and they sent a new one.  I am pretty sure that my Rami has an indexing hole drilled in the slide where the sight was originally set.  (It had moved to the left after the set screw vibrated out.)  I realigned my rear sight directly over the index hole, locktight-ed the setscrew and put it in tight.  It is back on target (with most types of ammo that I tried).  The sights have stayed put since then.  The grip screws, however, must be checked every time I clean it.  I have lost one or two, so keep an eye on them.  ('Can't locktight them because of the threaded inserts in the frame.)  The screws are made of soft steel, so make sure to use a properly fitting gunsmith screwdriver to tighten them. Guess how I know this?

I haven't had issues with aftermarket ones like these (mine came with grips). Torx is hardier than flathead, and the spacers might help.

Good idea.  I am a fan of rubber grips, but the torx screws look good.

I used blue Loctite on the grip screw insert of my Rami. Have not yet loctited in the grip screws to the insert, but I may at some point. Trick to removing Loctite is heat. I purchased a cheap soldering iron from harbor freight for about $4 as I recall. I do not use for any purpose other than Loctite removal as I don't want any solder residue. With soldering iron can apply directly to screw head. I have used this approach on screws that were tight enough to bend allen wrench. Just move fast when remove soldering iron as Loctite set up again very quickly. So quickly I have had Loctite set back up before I finished turning out screw with allen wrench. But just heat up again and move fast.

However if Loctite causes you concerns you might consider vibratite. A hot screw may melt rubber grip.

Just picked up a new Rami today and it is as stiff as you say. There is no dropping the slide on an empty mag at this point. The mag release is also pretty stiff. Interesting enough, it was also bone dry.  I just finished a throrough cleaning and am going to leave it wet for my first range trip tomorrow. I plan on running 200 rounds through it so we will see what that does.  I?ll report back later.
