This may/may not be true for others, but it's worked this way on both my laptops.

When I "log in" on the forum I click on the "show unread posts since your last visit" button.

If there is more than one page I have to start on the last page and work my way forward or I miss posts.

Why?

Because if I start on page one and as I work my way down the page and click on an interesting thread that thread will "disappear" from the page when I go to page 2.  The top thread on page two moves to page one and I "miss it" as I work my way down page two.

If I clicked on 5 threads on page one then 5 threads from page two jump to page one when I click on page two.

Not sure if it works like this for everyone.  Just wanted to let people know you may be missing interesting threads/posts if you scan/click starting on page one.

Then again, maybe I'm the only one who didn't already know this.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I actually have never used that feature here, to be honest. Interesting.

The change in behavior (read post leaves list on paging-back) began after the conversion to "https://" status on the page..

What I do after logging in, is to click on "Show new replies to your posts."  If you have ever created or replied to a thread it will show up in this list after someone else posts or modifies it.  VERY USEFUL feature.

When selecting one of these posts I normally pick the icon on the far right which takes me to the last point that I had read in the post which is close to where the new material begins.  Also VERY USEFUL.

Then I will click on "Show unread posts since last visit."  After doing the above, these will all be posts that I've never posted-to before.  I start at the top of the list as it is the "freshest" and work my way down.  Whether I start at the beginning of a post (click on subject line) or at the bottom of a post (click on right-most icon) depends on the reply-count that I see.

For new member postings, I generally will not read and add to the welcomes if there are more than about 6 replies already, unless the person made the subject line of their post interesting (i.e. something other than "Hello", "New Guy", etc.)

I find that doing the above makes the best use of my time on the board for catching up.

When I've made it through the list (usually 1-3 pages), I "Mark All Messages as Read" to clear the list so it won't be so vaunting the next visit.

For RESEARCH, that's another matter...

First go to the appropriate sub-board and then use the SEARCH window carefully picking your search terms.  You'll get a list of posts in that sub-board containing the search term(s) and an "in-context" quote containing the term.

Enjoy this great and wonderful Forum!

As i go through the new posts i hover on the title and do an open in new tab. After i have done that through all the pages i go back and read those tabs. Started doing this when using my phone to read the forum when we where not near home and found it works great with phone, Fire and W10 computer.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

larryflew, that may be the same thing I do.  I right click on an interesting thread and open in a new tab.  What I've found is if I start on Page 1 and click on 5 threads, when I get to the bottom and go to page two the top 5 threads on page 2 jump (unseen by me) to the bottom of page 1.  If I don't go back to page one and check them out then they are missed when I click on mark threads read.

Starting on the last page prevent me from missing those moving threads.

Hi guys, I haven't posted in a while, I have been busy with a new job and house sale/purchase. M1A4ME, I do the exact same thing when loggin in, and yes, I have found that is how the forum works, so I also start at the last page of new posts, and work backwards so I don't miss any threads with new posts. I don't know if there is a fix for it in the software, so the work=around is to go backwards from the last page.

If you do it from the first page and opening new ones in a new tab nothing disappears until you are done with all the pages. Have to go through all in one shop then all you have left are the new opened tabs at the top of the page.

Sorry Larryflew, but I don't find that to be the case. As soon as page two is clicked, the top threads on page two transfer to page one (however many page one threads were opened).  Next time you log on, click on "Show unread posts since last visit", then scroll to the bottom of page one and note what the bottom thread is. Then open a few threads from page one, then click on page two. Then, go back to page one and scroll down to the bottom thread. You will see that the previous bottom thread is no longer on the bottom, but has moved up, and threads from page two have been moved to page one. Now, those bottom thread which were on page two cannot be seen on page two, and if you don't go back to page one, they will be missed. This is how it works for me consistently, and it seems it is how it works for M1A4ME. Try it to confirm.

No idea what you might have or be doing different. I open page one hover and right click open in new tab. Do that all the way through page 1. Don't close page 1, open page 2 and do all of those. Do same for any other pages. If you are not moving or deleting anything on a page nothing should move or change.

This is one of the most annoying things about this site I experience. It frustrates me a lot! It is almost as frustrating as the incredible difficulty there is to post a picture, at least compared to all the other sites I frequent. I mean I figured out how to post a picture but it's gymnastics compared to the other sites I am on.

When I go to Show unread posts since last visit. or Show new replies to your posts. click on a thread close it go to the next one and then think hey I want to check that last one out again....it's gone and I have to try to remember the name or who it was started by, its just frustrating that it goes away instead of letting you go back and find them.

I really like the site and the folks here but there is a lot frustrating quirks.

Ah hah! There is the difference. I click Page 2 from page 1, which closes page 1, instead of right-clicking and opening page 2 in a new tab. I will try your way and see what happens.
