744 Stainless Questions -please help
« on: September 08, 2018, 10:19:29 AM »
I came across a nice looking 744 with 8" barrel yesterday. Made in Monson, with the changeable barrel. No box or anything, just the gun itself. Asking price is $650. Is there anything I should look out for in particular? I've owned a couple of revolvers but only briefly. Been wanting to add a 629 at some point but the DW is a good looking gun and has me interested. It fits my hand much better than other .44's I've held.

Check the timing and lock up of the cylinder to be sure they are good.
That is not to say that they are frequently bad, just that they should be checked on any revolver.
The 744 is a very solid design that can handle the heaviest (+p+) Buffalo Bore ammo.
There are threads on how to check all the items on the Dan Wesson Forum.
But $650 for a DW 744 is a fantastic price! Even if the barrel needed work they can be bought for less than $100.
We would love to see pictures.

I have one and believe me I did not get off that cheap.

Thanks Terry. I'll go back tomorrow and take another look.
