How to clean CZ-452 barrel ... cleaning rod has cuts
« on: September 12, 2018, 10:15:53 AM »
I bought a .22 cleaning rod and a bore guide to clean my 452 barrel.
I removed the action, installed the bore guide and kept the trigger pulled back, then i found it hard to insert the rod in so i pulled it out and saw a sharp cut on the rod.

What could cause this cut ?
Thanks for your help.

Hard to insert the rod into the Guide? The Chamber? Don't know what material you're rod's made of, but to put a cut into any of them you would have had to feel at least some resistance.  The only thing I can think of may be the Ejector if your guide doesn't have a closed channel all the way to the breach face on the barrel.

A 22 cal cleaning rod will contact the ejector and get 'cut'.

Some people use 20 cal, or even 17 cal, rods to prevent this. Some remove the ejector plate.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

My .22 cal cleaning rod works fine on all of mine, not too tight, not cuts, just works a treat.

From the CZ-USA FAQ's http://cz-usa.com/support/faq/ (emphasis added):

Quote
Q: “I’ve heard you use tight bores in your .22s, is that right? What does that mean?”

A: Our 22 LRs use our cold hammer forged and lapped barrels, and are built a bit tighter than many other guns. In 22 LR we run a .211 bore, which is one of the reasons our .22s are known for incredible accuracy. This also means that a .17 or .20 rod and jag are required for cleaning, since a .22 rod will be too large.

Additionally, use of .22 Short, Long and ‘Sub-Sonic’ ammunition isn’t recommended because of the tight bore. This is not to exclude quality match or target ammos, which may remain sub-sonic in speed.

I've posted this before...  Always be sure to completely read the manual that comes with your CZ.

And my .22 Cal Rod and Jags will NOR fit at all, won't even start to enter the bore. I've had a pair of Ivy .20 Rods on order now for some time. Currently I'm using a borrowed rod.
