CGW Pro Package vs Carry Package with SAO conversion?
« on: September 19, 2018, 10:45:53 PM »
Hello all. First time caller, long time listener :)

So my SP-01 was delivered to Cajun Gun Works yesterday and I have 6 weeks or so to decide now. This will be mainly be a range gun.

The Full Pro Package is so ever tempting but I'm also interested in the Defensive Carry Package with SAO conversion.

I would like to ask for opinions to those who have tried both variants, to include removing the firing pin block for either package.

For reference, I have four other pistols, SA 1911 Loaded Stainless 45acp, G17 OD, 92fs Inox, and P226 Scorpion.

Thank you in advance.

I have not had anyone modify my pistols for me.

I have one CZ75 Compact with a super nice trigger with the firing pin block intact/operating.  I can't take credit for the crispness of the trigger, it's mostly due to the CZ spur hammer (Pre B style) I bought from CZ USA.  Just an awesome trigger in SA.  The pistol remains SA/DA in operation, I just carry it cocked and locked.

I have one CZ75 Compact with a super nice trigger with the firing pin block intact/operating.  It was DA/SA and it is now SAO.  I do not carry this one.  The trigger is too light, in my opinion.  Too light?  When I'm at the range, shooting it for the first time that day/week/month and I send a bullet or two into the target before I'm really wanting to fire it, the trigger is too light.  Was it pointed down range at the target?  Yes.  But I wasn't really "tuned" in with the sight alignment quite yet.  This one has the CGW race hammer and adjustable sear and the straight SA trigger from CZ USA.

I'm trying to say, removing the firing pin block isn't really necessary to have a really nice trigger.  It may be easier to get there without the firing pin block safety, but it's not necessary.

Carrying a SAO pistol shouldn't be an issue.  I did for many years.  Lots of people do.  They work just fine if you know how to work them.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Ducatiti,

If you are going the route of SAO, then you don't need to do much to the gun to make it great.  Get a hammer, a trigger, the floating trigger pin, and the SRS lifter (not the entire kit).  Get the sights you like and be done with it.  Obviously CGW can do this work too but so can the average home smith.

Personally since you already have the pistol at CGW, I'd go for the full pro or defensive carry package and leave the gun DA/SA.  It depends on your intended usage but CGW will tailor it just right.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks for your input tdogg. Totally makes sense to go the pro package route since they already have my pistol. They suggested to do the carry package together with the SAO conversion. Are you saying the carry package is unnecessary? This will be solely a range gun.

After being these videos, I almost made up my mind till I read your post :)

Hmm. This happens to when I use my Zev 2 lb striker spring on my glock, shooting unintentionally that is (at the range only).

I just want the best bang for the buck, wanting to remove the FPB.

With the safety model, doesn't one shoot single action 90% of the time though, if not always? Get my point?

In my opinion, if you don't want a firing pin block then purchase a shadow variant.

I think you'll get a great trigger with the SAO conversion sans the need for these parts included with the Defensive Carry package:
Extended firing pin
Reduced power main spring
Reduced power firing pin spring
Reduced power firing pin block spring
Reduced power trigger spring
Aftermarket sear

You're paying for all this and the the labor to install with the package .  Most of these are geared toward reducing the DA trigger pull (all effect the SA too but it will be sub 3lb already with a race hammer).  Hence the reason for the suggestion to keep this gun already at CGW DA/SA.

Cheers,
Toby
