Title: EZ/D 9-40 Fiber Optic Sight Set
Post by: David0408 on January 06, 2019, 12:17:19 PM
Hey guys,
I was thinking about putting these on my PCR and then on my SP-01 if I liked them. I have 48yr old eyes and I?m hoping they will improve my ability to pick up the sights. How many of you have these sights? What are your impressions? Thanks.

These are Dawson sights and YES they are great for the blind people like me. I have Dawson on all my CZ's as I'm 60 and can't pick up any of the black or white dot sights. It's the best investment that old eyes can have. Most of there Fiber front sights and black fold back rears are $78.00 and FREE shipping. Her is the link for Dawson CZ sights: https://dawsonprecision.com/sights/cz-sights/

Dawson Precision does not sell our CGW specific EZ/D 9-40 sight set to the end user.  This was designed by CGW, and we have an agreement with Dawson on this design.

I have these sights on a couple of mine.  I?m almost 44 and have pretty poor eyesight, wearing glasses for vision correction.  Recently installed them on my 75B SA and my 97B.  Haven?t had a chance to get out to the range with them yet, but my initial impression is positive.  I am able to pick up and focus much better on the front sight than before, so I expect they should work well for me.

Can someone post a side view pic of these installed as I would like to see how the rear sight sits on the slide. Thinking of these for my 75Compact ccw project.

Thanks.

Here is how they look on my CZ75BD. I like them, the rear notch is deeper than standard. The front sight is also a bit narrower than standard so they allow more light on each side of the front sight when viewed through the rear.

For the PCR i would suggest checking out some of the available sights designed specifically for the PCR's unique rear sight cut. CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works both have PCR rear sight offerings.

Yes, great pics. When I asked CGW about a fiber optic sight set up for my PCR, these were the sights that they recommended. They did say that the sights would need to be fitted which means taking a little off of the bottom of the dovetail.

The sights on the picture look like the front sight on my Tactical Sport.

I bought an XD Competition 9MM.  Big old orange basketball looking FO front sight.  I hate that sight right now.  Big glowing ball out there that is more distracting than helpful.  Nope, don't need'em, don't want'em.

Then I bought that used Tactical Sport .40 S&W.  Tiny little green FO front sight.  That small diameter FO sight completely changed my opinion on FO front sights.  I enjoy shooting that big old pistol with the small glowing easy to see front FO sight.

Colors - you  might see different colors better.  Buy some different color FO rods and experiment with your pistol to see what works best for you (they're pretty easy to install yourself.)

For example, I can see/use the amber DI RMR better than the green.  I've got both on CZ pistols but the amber shows up better in less than ideal lighting conditions than the green.

But on FO sights, I really like the subdued green over the brighter orange/amber.

My wife's CZ75 Compact has a DP Pro on it with an amber/red dot.  The upgraded front sight was also an amber/red FO sight.  She really didn't like that combo and said it confused her about which "dot" to use.  I changed the front FO rod to a green one and that took care of her problems with the sights.

I initially had the red fiber on all my guns then tried the green fiber on my 97. My eyes picked up the green fiber better so i switched all to the green plus it provides a better contrast with "red center" targets

These are great sights and I have used them on several of my CZ's. I like the sight picture a lot.

However as you mentioned CCW, I would not recommend these for that application. They are big and sharp and I have bloodied my hands more than once during a competition while doing an emergency reload and a hand over the slide release.
These will also tear your side and your shirt if you carry IWB.

Oh, that?s a bummer. I didn?t  think about it tearing me up IWB!

Anyone know of a FO sight setup that CCW friendly?

I just put them on a SP01, and quickly determined that I've been missing out.   Super fast target acquisition.  I'm buying more.

Did the same and 3 out of my 4 have them now.

I've done the same and placed an EZD set on an SP01.  It's a great sight setup.  But when holstered close to your body the rear sight does poke at my side.  I'm not wide but i'm not the thinnest either.  I typically use OWB concealment holsters, and tend to draw close to my body.  If you don't mind shaving the sharp edges down that may help.

I've seen Dawson has a concealment set that looks like it may have smoother edges.  Other than that i've been contemplating sending a slide in to have them mill it for a Novak cut sight.  Even a 10-8 rear sight which seems to have sharp edges doesn't tear me up when i'm drawing my 1911.  But it may be because of different slide profiles.

I ordered the exact same sight set for my SP-01 and 97BD!  These have been awesome!

Yeah, I?d like someone to comment or post some pictures of the Dawson concealed sights. That should be the answer to the sharp edges.

Ive been thinking about buying a set for my compact  but im courious with the way the EZ/D 9-40 rear sight comes all the way to the back of the slide does it allow a person to pull the OEM hammer back manually without any problems ??
I have a SP01 Tac. and the factory rear sight is flush with the rear of the slide maybe even a slight over hang and when i try to cock the OEM hammer my thumb is hitting the sight and not leaving much to get a grip on with the small round OEM hammer.....

With a factory hammer installed the EZD sight do make it harder to manually cock the hammer. I have race/comp style hammers installed in the CZs that i have with the EZD rear sight and this remedies the issue. If this is a significant concern there are a number of sight options that to not overhang to the same degree. Another option is to install a hammer with a different profile that is less effected by the overhang of the rear sight.

Here is a reference picture for a comp sight with a factory hammer.. While the sight pictured is a CZ custom option it is similar in its overhang.
