It started as an experiment — a grand melding of Dan Wesson and CZ pistols. Borrowing the crisp single action fire control group of a DW 1911 and combining it with the ergonomics and capacity of a CZ, the resulting pistol emerged as something great.
Designed initially for competition use, the DWX has evolved into much more than that, with both full-size and compact variants. Its locked breech barrel system is simple, ditching the standard 1911 link system and using CZ-style takedown via the slide stop. The easier take-down will be familiar to any hammer-fired CZ owner, as is removing the Match-grade barrel due to the bushing-less barrel system that resembles a P-10 or P-09/P-07. Double-stack magazines boost the capacity of the full-size to 19+1 with flush bases, and many standard 1911 parts enable gunsmiths and competitive shooters to tune the X just the way they like it. Sights are easily customized, using a 1911-style dovetailed sight in the front and a CZ Shadow 2 style sight cut in the rear.
With the grip angle and contours that have made the CZ 75 a stand-out in the realm of pistol ergonomics, the DWX is a natural fit to most hands. The full-size DWX uses standard CZ 75 grips, while the compact DWX uses those from a 75 Compact. Corresponding magwells for the 75 series are compatible as well.
With so many ways to tune and customize, the DWX is sure to shine in USPSA Limited Division!
Full-size DWX pistols use a magazine based on the P-09/P-10 F, while compact variants use that of a 75 Compact.

"Hot" would be an understatement. That might just be the pistol that sways me away from lusting after an STI.

Will own one without a doubt. This is a CZ killer IMO if:
- it has typical CZ/DW reliability
- you don't need/care about DA/SA
This gun will be an open division monster if it runs.
-
Oh man, me likey!
-
Can i get this in europe?
-
I am very interested in this and want to know more! Trigger weight, crispness, balance, etc... This just threw a monkey wrench into my gun purchase que and makes the decision harder for sure!
When are they available and what is going to be the street price?
Cheers,
Toby

I just got my SAO Shadow from CZC last week . this is not fare
-
just the safety location alone makes it better. not to mention the trigger if its like a 1911.
-
Looks to me like this is going to be a direct competitor to the CZ TSO. Have a TSO with hinged trigger at sub-2lbs or a 1911 style trigger at ??lbs. I don't see this a competitor to any of the DA/SA guns and will be an alternative to the STI 2011s. Those are up around $3k now and this has a MSRP of $1799 which means a street price of around $1650-$1700. If they pack it up with 3 mags and there is an immediate aftermarket for basepads and holsters I think it will be a winner.
-
I am intrigued. Neat gun
-
I’d buy the .40 so it’ll be a perfect partner for my 9mm TSO.
-
This in 40 S&W for limited is going to be a winner for sure. Excited to get ahold of one!

interesting.. curious about how many 40sw rounds it holds with 140mm mags..
springer says p09 w/ their pads and grams guts = 19
-
sweet toy. I tried to leave a dw and a cz in the safe and see what happened...nothing!! ;) will get one of these when available
-
C'mon I just bought a Shadow 2!!
-
My only question is when. Someone must have connections at DW to find out. Please
-
I received a reply from Dan Wesson about the availability of the DWX pistol. Apparently they are aiming for 1st quarter of 2020.

Hopefully not on the P10C plan.

Or the Bren 2 Carbine

With CZC pads and spring and follower kit, can get 20 to 21, am told same is true of Henning pads with spring and followers.
-
Sweet gun. But it looks like the barrel sits higher so it might affect recoil.
-
wounder when the YouTubers are going to start getting these for reviews. I need to see this thing run .for me this would be literally a perfect gun , if it is all that i am reading . I think i am going to wait till than before putting down a deposit .

I was all set to pick up a Stacatto-P this Xmas but I guess that's on hold. I'm really excited about this. A fundamental problem with 1911's has been getting shorter 9/40 cartridges to feed well in a system designed for much longer .45 rounds. What sticks out to me is the long external extractor and the the guide rod and barrel arrangement. I wonder if the slide is internally more similar to a Shadow in the rear? Assuming it runs, this gun is going to make a strong presence in Limited and Open. Hopefully someone makes a grip panel that takes advantage of all that smooth metal below the slide release and thumb safety.
-
Sweet gun. But it looks like the barrel sits higher so it might affect recoil.
This was my observation as well.
Any info on the compact? Using 75 compact mags is cool.

Low bore axis on CZ's is kind of an optical illusion because of the slide in frame design. Strong hand distance from the bore is about the same.

the only thing i can say is WOW. that graph is amazing. I did no think that the BA was lower on CZ. But I do think that of the difference in slide to frame system makes the CZ muzzle rise just a bit less.

A well sorted 1911 in 9mm shoots incredibly flat, but I agree that the ergos of the CZ are what make the bigger difference. The Sig P226 has a crazy high bore axis, but the grips are shaped perfectly for my hands so the gun returns to the same spot with little effort. Glocks have the lowest bore axis but the frame shape took a lot more practice for me to get my grip technique dialed in.
-
Actually, a 9mm 1911 slide tends to move slower than a CZ75 9mm. A 2011 is actually very controllable for follow up shots, .40 included. I bet this DW is a big step up from a TSO, and not just in the trigger dept.

I think a 2011 with real CZ ergos is the perfect combo. I've been toying with building a 2011. I already bought a frame/grip/Magwell & associated parts but I don't shoot Limited and Open is soooooo expensive.

I just got an STI Staccato P Duo a couple of weeks ago and now this happens...
I'm good for now though, the DWX in a configuration I would really want will probably take a while, I'm still waiting on my BREN 2 after all...
I LOVE the STI, it is a wonderful gun, but this Dan Wesson X fixes the basic gripes I've always had about 1911s. I don't like grip safeties, barrel links and separate bushings. And needing a paper clip or a piece of plastic to keep the spring system together during cleaning is a PITA for sure. You can't beat a good 1911 trigger though... Dan Wesson is awesome for doing this.
I'd like a DWX in as close to the same configuration as my Staccato P Duo, a shorter than 5 inch barrel and pre-cut for an optic with properly sized back-up irons out of the box. I really like the Dawson optic plate system on the Staccato P Duo.
-
Combo of the CZ 75 design ergos, CZ SP01 design steel rail, the CZ P07/09 design barrel, lock up and disassembly, and a DW 1911 designed trigger mechanism and slide ON frame construction, all merged into a single pistol, and I believe all Dan Wessons are built in the USA....
This will give my Beretta Elite LTT a run for top gun in my pistol collection...
-
HOLY S#%T!!! That is absolutely stunning to me. I’m not really a 1911 or CZ guy but I love me some CZ clones. :o
-
Magwell options for limited guys?
-
I want to see the compact version. Then I want someone to make a threaded barrel and comp so I can turn it into a Roland Special type deal.

TSO/ Czechmate magwells will work according to the product release

Went by my lgs and put a deposit down for the first one they get....WHOOP!

Definitely. I think I'm most interested in the compact as well.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.---- I like it.

All I know is they combined my 2 favorite guns.Need to sell my chopper so I can buy one. Can't ride it any way with a bum leg.

Dang man I would sell a lot of guns to get a chopper, maybe we can work something out? [emoji2957][emoji1787][emoji23][emoji106]

But that doesn't take into effect where your hand will be while gripping the pistol. You can get a much higher hold on the CZ 75.

Some slide weights I've measured:
1911 (Colt S70) 13.2 oz
SP-01 Shadow 12.3 oz
Shadow 2 13.7 oz
TSO 9mm 13.7 oz
Tanfoglio Stock III 13.3 oz
Tanfoglio Limited 12.6 oz

But more of the slide sits above the frame. If you line up the frames where the slides ride, you'll see the barrel sits higher. May be a mute point because of the 9mm caliber. Are they going to offer it in 10mm, .38 super, and .45? Or have they said anything about caliber offerings yet?

The bore axis/barrel height difference is a myth. There's a good diagram posted on Benos in the DWX thread.
Dont hold your breath for other calibers. This gun is aimed at the competitive shooting market, specifically USPSA Limited(.40cal). The 9mm would work well in 3gun and Steel Challenge and leaves the possibility for 9 Major in Open class.

Nice!! Wouldn't mind having one. Like I said 2 favorites. Wouldn't mind competing myself but not sure with my leg. I think I'll look into local competitions. Find out what I can. Need new glasses first lol!! Wish I could get a new leg or just have it lopped off for a prosthesis.

You could try Steel Challenge. Only one out of 8 stages requires movement, and it's only a couple steps. The other 7 are shot from a static position. It's a lot of fun!

Thanks for that. I love to shoot. Better with rifle than pistol. Was expert in army. Thought about joining rifle team but things happen. Took basic, intermediate, and advanced sniper in army. Nothing like they teach real snipers. Just basics at each level. Like rappelling. There's normal rappel, quick rappel, then advanced Australian rappel. You come down face first. It's a trip. You learn the basics and time, experience, and continuing education builds an master.

That picture is also posted in this thread. But what it doesn't take into account is where you can hold the guns and you can get a higher hold on the CZ.

Looking forward to YouTube reviews as well. Going to be sweet I bet. Need to sell chopper and buy one. Like the colors as well. Wonder if they'll offer other color combos? Most the time weapon manufacturers need time to see what customers are doing and there's a lag for them to catch up, it they ever do. I've had a kimber full size .45, can't remember specific model. But it was a beauty. Shot really well especially for .45. Had military colt and the kimber was in another world.
God I want one of these.

Yes, you can hold a little higher, but the bore axis is still virtually the same.

I really like the looks of the compact, can't wait to hear some reviews on these.

I saw this on the 1911 forum from Keith at DW. Good info.
--------------------
Good morning DW people. I have held off commenting until the compact was introduced and I know you have lots of questions.
Please be sure to visit our website, as many of your questions can be answered there.
We are very excited to bring you the DWX product line, this is just the beginning. It has been two years in the making and we could not get it out soon enough.
We plan to start making deliveries first quarter on 9mm's.
Some things that are not listed that should be noted. As per all Dan Wesson's' there are no MIM parts in these guns. Any parts that were shared with CZ were upgraded, with exception to springs, pins and rear sights and magazines.
The Compact ships with a single sided safety however we do have ambi's available and the safeties are interchangeable between the full size and compact, just like single stack 1911. The full size ships with an ambi and single sided safeties available.
The mag release is specific to the gun however, both are ambidextrous.
The compact grip is the same size as a compact CZ-75 however, we designed the gun to use full size 75 magazines. This makes the gun just a little larger than the ECO with the ability to hold 15 rounds with a flush magazine.
If you live in a less than free state, like myself, 10 round versions will become available.
Triggers are similar to a 2011 trigger however are specific to the model, we will have many additional colors, lengths and shapes available to suit your needs.
Holsters should also be available at time of release.
------------------------------------
-
2 pistols came out of this years shot show, one needs to become more than a limited offering before I will buy one.
But this pistol, will be the first steel CZ I want bad. The thing that has kept me from buying steel CZ mags, is my P09 mags wouldn't work in them.
Now we have a steel framed gun that not only works with my P09 mags, but has barrel lock up like a P09 which means it will be a tack driver.
I WANT THIS PISTOL BAD!
-

------------------------------------
This is confusing, are they saying that it is “designed” to rake full size mags at the standard 17 rd capacity, or that it is “designed” to take compact mags at 15 rds but can take full size mags like most other CZ compacts? Also anybody heard of any updates on a release date yet?

Anybody hearing anything on when these will be available?

4th Quarter 2020, if we are lucky. WuFlu shutting down NY did a number on DW production for the year.

The local dealer near me said the same thing so 4th qtr looks like the best case scenario at this point. Thanks alot controlavirus.
