So I'm thinking about selling, or trading, my Rami BD for either a regular P-01, or the P-01 Omega. I'm interested in anyone thoughts about which one to get. Like what are the differences between the two? Is there anything that makes one better than the other? Thanks!
-
The decocking lever on the P01 sticks towards the rear of the pistol, like your Rami.
On the Omega P01 the decocker is ambidextrous and operates/sticks towards the front of the frame. Opposite what you're used to. Doesn't mean you can't learn it, just means to start off with it will feel and operate a bit differently.
Both mine are Omegas, but I install the safeties and carry cocked and locked.

Are you wanting something just a little bigger or something a little different?

I have two P01 Omegas, A 75 Compact and a 75B. Out of the box the Omega P01s have very good triggers, the 75 Compact has an OK trigger and the 75 B had a horrible trigger, I used to hate shooting the gun. Over the last year I have put Cajun parts in my P01s and the triggers got even better and I love them. That said I finally got around to cleaning up the trigger on the 75B and it is very good now. Some will say the traditional trigger on the P01 can be modified to be better than the P01 Omegas, I can not tell much if any difference. If I had it to do again I would buy the P01 Omegas again.

I made the very same decision back in 16 (IIRC) and bought the Omega. I preferred the trigger shape and out of the box pull. Mine remains a decocker, but it’s nice to have the option to convert. Am agnostic about the decocker direction- doesn’t bother me at all.
Eventually sent it in to CGW for their Omega pro package work and couldn’t be happier. Later I sent in my PCR for pro package work, and to be honest, think both are about the same trigger pull wise.
All that said, don’t think you can go wrong with either.
Let us know what you decide

I have both and personally prefer the Omega because of the trigger shape, but the standard trigger model is fine too. The decocker direction makes no difference to me, but you may prefer one over the other... As mentioned above, you can't go wrong with either one.
I'll never part with any of my 5 CZs... 8)

I have both and prefer the omega. Both have Cajun parts and 10x bushings. To me, the omega has a lighter DA and feels smoother. Both shoot great.

I'm looking at picking up a P-01 but haven't been able to find one to demo. In practice what is the difference between the Omega shaped trigger and the regular P-01. Being in California I would only be able to get the Omega version through PPT if one was available. Thanks!!

My decision was easy - ambidextrous levers at first point. So Omega was a natural choice. However I did a research before purchasing it to see if it's worthy comparing to regular P-01.
Both are great pistols, no doubt... but out of the box Omega is ready to shoot with nice, smooth pull. And I love the Omega trigger's shape. (it's more natural comparing to "C" one)
Of course both can be better with CGW parts, but this is the best part - it's much easier to do the gunsmith work by yourself with Omega. I'm not saying P-01 cannot be done... Omega has less complicated action and is easier for full disassemble and reassemble. All polishing work takes half of time comparing to regular P-01.
And of course doing the job with CGW parts by yourself you save some money.
And sights.. Omega comes with night sights, however they are 3DOT setup... nothing great....

Probably both. I spent most of my life with 1911's so I'm more use to a compact size pistol. That being said right now I have more subcompacts than compacts, the rami being one of them. The rami is also the only da/sa I have at the moment. I decided I needed to get rid of one of my subcompacts and get another compact size. I really liked the rami so I decided to get another cz. I also like to work on my own guns so I'll put a CGW pro kit into whatever I end up with. One reason I'm leaning towards the Omega because of the omega trigger system. It's easier to work on, and the pro kit from cgw is a little cheaper than the pro kit for the non-omega models.

So these are pretty good reasons to go with P-01 OMEGA :D

I agree. I'm leaning heavily towards the Omega right now. I just need to sell my Rami, or trade it.

The only way to be absolutely sure is to but one of each. Then buy more CZs, then buy more CZs, then buy more CZ, then buy more CZs.............. :D

LOL! Great idea! I wish I could do that, but I'm an old retired guy living on a fixed income so I don't have unlimited funds. Now if I ever win the lotto...…………..

I find both trigger pull weights to be comparable...length of travel as well. The real difference for me is during fairly lengthy range sessions. After about 250 rounds with the standard trigger, my finger is beginning to get sore due to the hooked trigger. I can shoot more than 300 rounds with the Omega trigger without any discomfort. YMMV. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy either model.

This is my first post, and I'll be picking up my first CZ on Tuesday -- so take this for what it's worth.
I was facing the same dilemma . I knew I wanted a CZ compact; but there were so many options (75 compact, PCR, P01 and P01 Omega). Fortunately my local range had most of the versions available to rent. If you have the chance to try them out; I strongly suggest doing so.
But what I found was, for my skill level, on that particular day; I shot them all pretty much the same (i.e. really well!). I really expected to dislike the trigger on the P01; but it really didn't matter to me YMMV.
So I ended up getting the P01. I slightly preferred the position of the decocker. The sights on the Omega were a little better; but I intend to replace those anyway. Plus I was able to find a P01 for much less money than the P01 Omega. If they were the same price; I frankly would have bought the Omega; but I would have been VERY happy with either one.
I hope in the spring to send mine off to CGW for the Pro package (which will include the improved trigger), and the lower price of the P01 will help fund that work.

Welcome to the forum! I'm leaning slightly towards the omega, but it's probably going to come down to which one I get a better price on, new or used. I don't really think the decocker is going to make that much difference to me either way, and I don't have any use for the ambidextrous decocker anyway. The sights will be replaced with the TFX Pros either way. The omega would be slightly easier to work on but I could handle either one. I'll put a cgw pro kit in either one and the difference in price is only about 20 so that's no big deal. So when I find the best deal for sale, or the best deal on a trade, on either model, I'll probably take it.

I'd even consider a PCR. I don't use the rails on any of my other pistols for anything anyway.

I'm in the same boat, musicman. For my first compact CZ, it came down to these two models for me as well. I've decided to get the Omega due to the single action option with thumb safety, mainly because I am a 1911 carrier and prefer a similar manual of arms. The other reason is because I dearly love the SA trigger on a 75 Shadow I just picked up, and having a compact with a similar trigger seems like the best choice for me.
I'm hoping I can swap the thumb safety on an Omega to one like the Shadow has.

Scratch the PCR. After doing some research I found out the rear sight cut on the PCR is not the same as the rest of the P75 series. I'm not sure why CZ did that. So the PCR is sort of in the same boat as the Rami. Very few aftermarket sights available for it, besides the factory sights.
-
There was a time when there were no sight options for the CZ PCR. These days both CZ Customs and Cajun Gun Works both offer custom sight options for the PCRs unique sight cut. So you are limited in your options in comparison to the CZ P-01 but it is not like it used to be.

No decision yet. Right now it's down to either a p-01 or a p-07. The p-01 omega is a little out of my price range right now.
-
Omega is about $50 more than regular P-01... P-07 definitely cheaper.

I finally took the time yesterday and drove to the LGS. LOL, not really 'Local', about a 2 hour drive round trip. Glad I did. I wanted to get my hands on both the p-01 and the p-07 to see which one felt the best. They didn't have a p-07, or a p-01 omega. They did have a p-01 suppressor ready model, which I wasn't really interested in. I was about to leave when he guy told me that they did have a used p-01, with the case, 2 mags, etc. One owner, regular customer, low round count, and they had installed a set of mepro night sights right after he bought it. Wanted 475 for it. I asked him if they had discounts for senior citizens or veterans. Since I was both and it was the day after Veterans Day he dropped the price to 400, so I brought it home. Now to order some thin grips and a set of tfx pros. CGW pro kit probably next month. Now if this cold nasty weather will just get out of here so I can get to the range.
Thanks for all the advice, suggestions, and comments!
-
Great find. I am sure you will enjoy it and excellent price! That supressor ready model they had should have been an Omega BTW.

Congratulations ! That's a great deal !

5 more days till I get my P-01.
I went to a range & rented a P-01, Vp9, P320, and a G19. Extremely happy that I went with the P-01. My advice would be to go, or call, local ranges and shoot what you're thinking about purchasing.
Also, for those who are thinking about sending their CZ to CGW, get on the list. There's a 6 week long waitlist.
