Just got an email from Rainier Arms and they have advertised a: Timney Triggers CZ Scorpion Trigger.

Just awesome that this firearm is getting so much support.

Interesting thanks for the heads up-does anyone know if this is a 2 stage or single stage. Hoping for a single stage.
-
Ya, I can't find whether this is single or two stage either. Seems odd to leave that out.
A sub 3lbs trigger on a scorpion seems like an odd choice as well...
-
Installed today. Very crisp light trigger and reset.
Will test fire tomorrow.
Beware there are things to watch out for not covered in their instructions.
Here are my comments to them:
Got my trigger today and went about installing it. It was more difficult than an AR15 drop-in for sure, but even more difficult perhaps because of my early Scorpion (purchased Aug/2015, S/N B836xxx).
- Removing old trigger pack fairly straightforward
- Installing new trigger pack easy - installing safety - NOT so easy. Probably took me 30-40 minutes before I finally got it in there. Takes patience.
Here's where the bad part starts.
The instructions say to "reinstall the trigger pack". that's it. Well there's a little plastic "flipper" ejector? piece that needs to be oriented correctly when you reinstall the trigger pack or your troubles begin.
If you are not paying attention, that can get flipped around when you install the trigger pack.
When you do that, you cannot release the bolt with the charging handle, it gets stuck, and then it's a bitch to get it back to start over.
I broke my HB Industries charging handle trying to get the bolt back to remove the trigger pack again ! 🙁
I finally figured out what was going on and reinstalled my original charging handle and am operational. I will test fire tomorrow.
May consider adding that to the instructions or creating an installation video for your website.
Also, I had some issues with the trigger not resetting and had to adjust the tension on the selector switch plunger/screw.
Seems to be working fine now.

Just ordered mine directly from Timney. Thanks for the heads up! Your precautionary advise prompted me to read the instruction (not something I do too well, read the manual! :)). Is this the part you're talking about?

Extremist - Is it single stage or two stage?
I asked and they said Single Stage.

Interested to hear how this trigger is. I have an upgraded trigger that I like by HB but not sure it’s as light as the Timney.
-
Any updates on Timney performance?
-
Live fire testing done today. My carbine had the tuned trigger pack with HBi springs and Blizzard adjustable trigger 'shoe', its pull weight was around 4.5-5# with a bit of spongy feel take up. The new Timney pull weight is repeatable/consistent 3.5# with almost no take up and a clean break. Reset is really short and positive. Ran through a few magazines of reloads using Win SPM, Rem SP, and Wolf SP Magnum primers. No issues with any.

And just like that, I ordered a new trigger... O0
Thanks for the review.

Funny how fast we pull out the CC for gun components ;D You won't regret it.

Good to hear!
-
I wonder how it stacks up to a CZ customs trigger pack.
-
All I have to say is: WOW!
Only issue I had was getting the safety back in place, but it was just a matter of the correct wiggle.
It is so nice and smooth. I recommend this to every Scorpion owner.

I installed the trigger today and all I have to say (like the other person) is WOW! This thing is awesome!!! My OEM trigger screw (3mm to remove the oem trigger) had so much lock tight on it that that I stripped the screw. I pulled my other scorpion out and took it apart no problem. Put the new trigger in that one (to lift my spirits) before drilling out the stripped screw. The new trigger comes with a new trigger pack screw so I assume I’m not the first to have this problem. Drilled it out and installed new screw in that trigger pack. I’m trying to hold off buying a second Timney to put in my bigger scorpion but I don’t think that will last if I find them in stock tomorrow.

Wonder how much better the Timney is vs the lightened spring conversion or C polished version?

Wonder how much better the Timney is vs the lightened spring conversion or C polished version?
I have the HBI spring on my old trigger group and the Timney is much better. Someone else will have to join in on the polished springed.

Would you say lighter pull and smoother?

I love this trigger, but recently developed some issues. I have about 2000 rounds through mine and it runs great unsuppressed. My can was released from jail last week and I went and shot it last night with the suppressor. This is where the problems started.
I used my reloads, Federal HST and Speer Gold Dot. Dead trigger several times throughout the mags, the hammer was following the bolt. Occasionally the gun would double or triple. Remove the suppressor and the gun works with no issues.
So I have removed the trigger and reinstalled my factory trigger pack that I polished and replaced the springs with HBI and it seems to run fine with that, but I will have to do more testing. I have emailed Timney to see what they say, but I have not received a reply back yet.
Anybody else have this trigger and run a suppressor? This gun was built to run suppressed 100% of the time, so it is frustrating but hopefully Timney or I can figure something out.
-
Zen I am having a similar issue with dead trigger (hammer following the bolt?) and double/triple fire, however mine is unsupressed. Not sure if it has anything to do with it but the dead trigger happens only during rapid fire mostly with 124 & 147 gr bullet and the double/triple fire with hotter/lighter 115 gr; all factory ball ammo. Trigger is back at Timney for service.

Ordered one last week and I’m also having problems with the Timney trigger. Mine won’t reset consistently. It looks to me like the back end of the trigger bar is protruding too far past the end of the trigger assembly and it is being forced against the inside wall of the Scorpion’s trigger housing. I believe that pressure is keeping the trigger bar from dropping back down on release and won’t let the disconnector disengage from the hammer. If I push the trigger shoe forward it will reset, but it won’t do it on its own most of the time. I know someone who ordered one the day after I did and is having the same problem. Sent a message to Timney through their website two days ago and sent an email today and have not received a response to either and can’t get a live person on the phone. Not super excited, at this point, which is disappointing because when the trigger works properly, it’s great.
-
brutal... think ill hold off on this impulse purchase for a while LOL
-
Wow. Really sucks to read these posts. I had mine out on Monday and it preformed flawlessly. I only put about 50-60 rounds through it w/o a can. I have a liberty cosmic but did not try it that day. I won’t get back to the range until next weekend but I will test it w/ the can and report back.
-
I have the Timney trigger and it has run flawlessly for ~500 rounds with and without suppressor (Rugged Obsidian). I've slowed down on my range time as I can't replace ammo...
-
Hopefully they can fix the issue as the trigger is pretty sweet. I have had a few others tell me the same issues. I have emailed and used the form on the website but haven’t heard back for a week. Nobody answers the phone as well. I know it is busy so I guess I will just try again later.
-
Update on my situation with this trigger. After not hearing back from the website form submission and not having a live person ever answer the phone, I tried an email to technical support and got a reply back the next day. At first, they hadn’t had reports of any issues, but over the course of several days of back and forth emails, phone calls and photos, more reports have popped up. Timney asked if I would be willing to send my trigger and the lower trigger housing to them, at their expense, so they could check and see what variations there might be between guns that are having issues vs. theirs. So far, the only trigger they had received back was working fine in their gun. Anyway, it’s on its way, so we’ll see what they find. So yes, things got off to a rough start, but once I figured out the best way to reach them (direct email, not the website form or phone) they’ve been great to deal with and hopefully they’ll get it figured out soon.

I continue to be sorry for those experiencing the challenges reported in this string.
I am very happy to report that I had my scorpion w/ the Timney trigger out at the range today suppressed and it continued to function flawlessly. After reading the posts in this thread I was very worried that my new trigger would have the same or similar problems.
With the Liberty Cosmic suppressor attached, I went through mag after mag without a single problem. I tried 4 different brands of 9mm Ammo including Federal bulk to 158gr subsonic.
Hopefully, Timney will be able to fix/adjust the problematic triggers mentioned in this thread so that the issues are resolved.
I will note that I have the trigger installed in an otherwise stock micro version; if that makes any difference.
-
Another happy Timney here too. I've only put ~500 down range suppressed (Rugged Obsidian), but no issues.
A huge improvement in one of the few areas that needed improvement...
-
Im trying to decide between this Timey Trigger and the Franklin Armory Binary Trigger.
Does anyone know any drawbacks to going the Binary trigger route vs this Timny trigger. What would you choose if price was not an option and why you would NOT choose the binary trigger over the Timney trigger.
Thanks
-
I have a binary trigger in my larger version scorpion and a Timney in my micro scorpion.
I’m a target shooter in general so my bias lies with all the traits of target triggers. I would say that the Timney is far and away a better feeling trigger in all aspects; compared to the single shot binary mode (as expected).
The question you have to ask yourself is how important is the binary mode to you; the reason most of us buy it. For pure fun, the binary wins hands down if you have tons of ammo to spray. If you want a significantly better overall trigger, assuming you don’t have function problems, the Timney is vastly superior.
If I could only have one of the triggers, based on my experience, I would buy the Timney 5 times more often than the binary trigger (and I have lots of ammo).
YMMV
-
I have binary triggers on a few ARs and a 10/22. They are fun range toys for sure. I have several ARs and 10/22s - if I only had one I would go with a good trigger over the binary. It also depends on the primary use of your Scorpion - if it's your home defense weapon, then I'd go with the Timney; if it's a range toy, go with the binary. My $0.02...
-
Hey Thanks Guys.
Exactly the type feedback I was looking for. I guess ill go with the Timney trigger. As stated I dnt have tons of ammo myself and ammo is hard to come by these days and expensive. I dnt want to call the binary trigger a gimmick but it does give somewhat of a feel of an automatic weapon or close to it w/o being illegal. So il think ill be going the Timney trigger route and save some money at the same time.
Thx Again

Got my trigger back from Timney. The problem was the dowel pin for the disconnector was binding on the inside of the trigger housing and not allowing the disconnector to move as freely as it should. They polished it, reinstalled and centered it and replaced the hammer/disconnector spring and got it shipped back out. The whole return/repair/return process was barely more than a week, which was quicker than I thought it might be. Got the gun in the range today and all is well. Trigger is fantastic, works properly now and is breaking just under three pounds. Couldn’t be happier with it.

I guess i shoulda made sure I could actually GET a Timney trigger first before making a decision on getting one. Seems like I cant find them available anywhere.
Does anyone know where I can get Timney trigger for the scorpion thats in stock or anyone has for sale???
Thanks
