Title: Keep your gun in the holster!
Post by: excheck on September 01, 2010, 11:21:26 PM
A hiker on Blewett Pass shot himself in the butt when he put a handgun in his back pocket. The Chelan County sheriff's office said the 52-year-old Snohomish man had moved his .40-caliber handgun from its holster to his back pocket Saturday to see if that position would be more comfortable. The Wenatchee World reported the gun fired the bullet down his left buttock and left leg, coming to rest just above the knee. He was treated at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

I guess now he knows the importance of a holster, and he'll be reminded of it everytime he sits down. ::)

I was there when Tim accidentally fired his derringer in his back pocket when he stretched. he was using it for a backup all day lock, and that hamme had somehow gotten cocked moving around in the truck. When they parked in the bay, he hopped out and stretched, and that spur trigger said, "OK".

BANG!

Bullet bounced between his legs and up right past his face. Only damage was a burned spot on his cheek the size of a silver dollar, and a story that will never die. I was hollering across the bay, as we grabbed all of our hardware, (in case it was an attack, this WAS an armored trucking bay with vault!), "Timmy, did you shoot yourself in the rear?"
"I don't know!"
"Well, drop trou and find out!"
The camera footage was priceless...

Giggles aside, holsters ARE the best way to carry your sidearm.

Wow, I guess the manual safety got accidently switched off and with the single action light trigger pull, bang!

No safety, Remington style double derringer, a Davis, IIRC. Now the guy in the OP probably used aGlock, and got the trigger caught in the pocket material sliding it in. Holsters are a WONDERFUL thing.

Reading those two stories makes me appreciate my P-01 with that decocker safety even more.  ;)

Istill give him grief over that one - his girlfriend cut the pocket out and framed it. Same guy who put a 380 through his roof one night while playing around, same guy who showed up to work wearing a black trenchcoat, two Glocks,Smith revolver, EAA Witness, something else I don't remember, and an AK clone with 75 round drum and 37mm flare launcher...

Egad, yes, yes he was, all of those things. I made him leave most of the firepower in the vault that day...ATS allowed staff with CCW permits to carry a backup gun - Timmy just took it to extremes.
Spur triggers and holsterless carry just don't mix!

Well, it did leave a mark, I guess.  It is true, holsters are the safest way to carry.  I must confess though, I have carried in my rear pocket in the past.  Almost always though, it was a hammerless revolver.  S&W 642.

I have never understood what compels a person to grab a gun and shove it in a pocket or tuck it in their pants ???
