Title: Canik 55 Stingray-C Range Report
Post by: Genin on April 06, 2014, 09:03:33 PM
Well I still had not received a shipping label from Century Arms.  I had decided to go onto two other sites that I'm a member of and asked members whom had the stingrays to see if their barrels look like mine. So far out of all the responses I have gotten "13- yes your barrel looks like mine" and "2- no mine doesn't look like that". In looking more closely at my barrel I can see that, although not as pronounced as on the bottom, the top of my barrel had just about the same amount of "free bore" before the lands really started.  I decided screw it, lets go to the range and just see.

I set up for 2 hand standing shooting at the 10-12 yard line and shot a full magazines worth at the X on a silhouette target. This is the group I got:

(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/GeninCloud/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps39e908d8.jpg) (http://s45.photobucket.com/user/GeninCloud/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps39e908d8.jpg.html)
(ignore my friend's hand in the photo, he was covering a couple bullet holes he had made on my target when shooting at the 8 above....he wasn't having the best shooting day)

Conclusion, the gun is plenty accurate. It was definitely me and not the firearm since sight picture was surprisingly hard to maintain through the long trigger pull. What seemed very easy in dryfire (with Azoom snap caps) was tricky at the actual range. It made me miss my Glock's short trigger travel lol....blasphemy right?!

I will NOT be sending this firearm back to the manufacturer and will notify them tomorrow that I will be keeping my firearm and will notify them if any problems arise during the 1year warranty period. Needless to say, I love this little gun and it is stupidly easy to control. There is almost NO recoil. It's insane. I ended up putting 128 rounds through it today. They were mix and match of plinking and defensive ammo. It fed everything, extracted and ejected robustly, and fired true. Yep, I love this little Stingray!

Thanks again to the members that responded to my questions via PM. You really helped put me at ease. I've already been browsing CGW's site to see what they offer for this little monster.

Man I'd send that POS back  :)

Good shooting pistol.  I'll add one to my collection eventually.

I am with you Genin.
my little Stingray is a sweet shooting gun.
I can't wait to get the CGW parts in to get the trigger to work as nice as the rest of the gun.
SA isn't horrible but I think the double action is, but I am spoiled  by some of my other guns.

NICE SHOOTING!

CGW's canik page has been updated with some new parts for us. New trigger, pins, etc. Even sights for those with fixed sight caniks.

kbeck,
hahahaha. I know right?! Thanks brother. These little guys feel so good in your hand, you'd love the way they shoot.

terry,
Thank you very much for the kind words. I must admit that all those shots were SA. I didn't bother taking any pictures after that because my buddy and I started doing drills and I wanted to check reliability etc. The targets looked wild by the end hahaha. Please make a thread when you get your CGW parts in etc. I'd love to know what you think about the upgrades.

jwc,
Thank you and amen! Sometimes I really need to just shut up and shoot.

dragonfly,
I saw that they offer the whole defensive carry pistol package now, so says the site anyhow. That's pretty wild. You could really trick out one of these bad boys.

Genin,
Thread coming soon.
I ordered the parts this morning.
Pretty much everything on the menu.
I plan to do an in depth with lots of pictures as there are a couple things people need to know about working on the Stingray.

Terry,
Excellent. I will keep my eye out for it. I'm eager to see the improvement they make.

Well I now have 300 rounds through my stingray-c. Love it! I was running drills with it today with my new safariland holster and really am getting the hang if this pistol.

This is a pic from my target at 12yards. We were doing strong-side draw and taking an aimed one-handed shot. Reholster and repeat. This is my 6 shot group.

Thank you. I did adjust my sights after my first range visit since it was hitting high and left. Took on adjustment up and two right on the rear sight and BAM! Dead on.

It's nice to have some nice weather in PA so I'm hoping to work some of my winter rust off in these upcoming months and really do a lot of shooting.

Good shooting! What make and model holster did you get? I'm still looking.

Thanks Kujiin! I got a Safariland Model 568 Custom Fit. It comes with the paddle attachment on the holster and a belt attachment if you prefer to use that. The ambi slide lock and take down do rub on my left-handed model, may not be an issue for right-handers. I had to trim some of the liner to stop it from pulling it up any further. I also rounded off the sharp edges of the take down and re-blued it.

Here's some pics:

Congrats. I just ordered my Canik Stringray C last night after researching it and other CZ clones. I liked what I learned.
Mine will be in the Titanium satin finish! Cerakoted too! For $350 shipped.  Wow.
Genin, is yours the fixed sights model? From what I can tell, that's how the Stingray C's are coming these days. Kind of a shame seeing how the previous models had the fully adjustable rear sight. Then again, looking at your target, I'm not sure it's much of an issue here.
I just saw another thread where the guy's new Stingray C was shooting way high out of the box. Also, one of the YouTube videos I saw which made me decide to get one, guy said his shot high too.
That would be disappointing.

Thank you Roger. Mine is in fact an older chrome 2012 model with adjustable sights. I had to adjust mine to have it hit poa/poi. The LPA sights mine came with adjust both up/down and left/right. I'm sure you will love yours and I hope it's dead on for you. I'd love some tritium night sights for mine. Hopefully someone will start modding them and offer that up.

I spoke to century the other day, and they noted that they have some adjustable sights in stock if you need them. Might be worth calling them.

Thanks!! Just in case. But like Genin was saying, hopefully it's a shooter right out of the box. Thanks, I hope so too.
I love F/O front and all black tactical sights (like the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow set-up)
Does anyone know if these are offered yet for the Stingray?

Nice I like that holster quite a bit. There is quite a few models. Would so kind to narrow it down for me.   :) . I've got finger on the order button.

Thanks
