Title: Century Arms Customer Support: Awesome Service or Awesome Mistake?
Post by: Cheapo on August 27, 2014, 03:56:59 PM
So I had a little issue when my VZ2008 arrived a few months ago. When I took it to the range 2 of my 5 mags were defective where one had a broken last round indicator and the other would fall out of the rifle. So a week or so after my trip to the range I contracted century.

First time I called they said I had to send in my ID and some paper work as I didnt have an FFL and they cant ship me mags without that info. So whatever, a few days later I got it submitted to them. They then said to call in 2 days later and they could process my request.

Called back 2 days later and they said they couldnt find my paper work. Person I talked to ended up finding my paper work but it has not been filed yet so she said she would do that first thing in the morning and that I should call back tomorrow afternoon to finish it up.

I gave her a full day and called the following morning. They get the details they need, and they say they will send the mags. I waited a week or 2 and hear or receive nothing.

I called them back to see if I could get a tracking number or something and they said nothing has been shipped and looks like the order is processing. They did find me an order number this time and said with this number I could check the status after it ships which would be soon they thought. So I waited another week, almost forgot about the request this time and I get a single package dropped off at my door today. Saw it was from Century, but man this thing was way heavier than it should be for 2 mags. I opened the sucker up and found this  :D

YUP they sent me 8 brand new mags and 2 pouches. Holy crap was that a pleasant surprise.  :D

Lol was a very happy surprise.

After reading the packing slip I'm pretty sure I know what happened. Who ever placed the order either didnt have the option to say "2 single mags" and just put down "2 VZ2008 Mags" and they only have them in pouches, so the packing guy thought it was 2 pouches. Or the packer simply didnt see it was individual mags on the order and thought it was 2 pouches of mags. Either way, thanks Century :)

Anxious to see what they say when you let them know they sent 5 instead of 2.

That is definitely a mistake and I personally would not feel right about not letting them know.

Generally the mistakes that do happen, aren't in our favor. Then we have to jump thru hoops to hopefully get it taken care of. I would have to chalk that up to a "Good Century experience". Personally I am happy with MY VZ, and don't have any qualms with someday purchasing another Century product.

Guess that makes me a worse person than you  O0 Pretty sure they're doing more than fine financially and are not hurting from letting a few VZ mags go.

First of all when you notify a company of something like this they usually tell you to keep it. Sounds like we have a few self righteous (you fill in the blank)s here.

I had one mag drop out of the rifle out of fifteen from PSA.  Looks like bad feed lips or a worn tab.  PSA told me to contact Century.

I read their warranty policy, filled out the online form and faxed them rifle serial numbers, my ID and a brief explanation late Thursday.  I also spoke with customer service on Thursday and the girl said she would look after it.

I did not receive a confirmation email from Century, but I knew the fax went through.  This morning (Monday) I was right near their office in Delray Beach and took the bad mag with me.  There is no public entrance, tours or anything like that, but the customer service manager met me out front and told me she would look into it.  They are very nice people there.

When I got back home an hour later FedEx had dropped off a box containing a brand new mag pouch and four new mags.  Evidently the girl last week took care of it.

Century has very good customer service.  I think the only thing they could have done better was to send an email that everything was in process and I would not need to bother them in person.  Fortunately I had the day off and it's nice meeting decent people.

My experience with Century customer service on one of the VZ58s has be less than awful.  Good to see they are not all bad.

The law states if they sent it to you, it's yours. If they send a notice stating that they oopsed and would like some of that back, then that is up to you. I personally would contact them and say thank you for the two mag pouches full, appreciate it.
My personal experience with Century is exactly the opposite - when my brand new out of the box CETME ate itself after ONE magazine full of ammo, they told me it was out of warranty, because it sat at a distributor for over a year. So hearing about this type of service, with my very admittedly biased opinion of CAI, I'd have to opine that it is a mistake, and they might want the pouches and 6 magazines returned. If they did state that, I would do so, and throw it all over the 'net.

"The law states..." ? Can you (or anyone) show me (point to) that law on the Cornell Law Library website?  Must be under the Commerce Law section, because it is across states? I once received $80k in Gold Eagle Coins from a large bullion supplier via his error. (small order for him) I returned them ... didn't want to screw with gold juju, etc (or the wife who didn't like the look in my eye)..., but I was wondering what would have happened on their end if I had said: " thanks, and God bless you and Tiny Tim too! " ?

Last time I checked, it is a law that if you receive items in the mail unasked for, and you are legally able to accept them, (i.e., someone ships you a select fire weapon instead of the FFL, no, you can't keep it), yes, you can keep it, because of the problem people had with companies shipping items to people and then trying to charge them for them. No, I can't point to the specific law, but to the best of my non-lawyer knowledge, it is there.
As for the gold bullion...while I am reasonably certain you could have kept them if they were indeed shipped to your address and your name, the guy probably could have made a legal stink over it, just to drag you into court and make you spend that money on legal fees.
I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but that's what I was told in the past. I've been wrong before, (just ask my wife), and I'll be wrong again, (I repeat my last), so double checking current standards is always a good idea.
