I saw a similar poll on another forum, but thought it would be interesting to see current results for CZ owners.
For myself, my primary carry is a 9mm compact (P-01).
-
Interesting poll...usually 9mm for carry but if I need something very concealed then it's .380
-
CZ P-09 winter, CZ SP-01 Phantom for summer...until I get a good IWB rig for the P-09. :)

How did I forget the 10mm? It's my youngest sons favorite caliber.
I was able to edit the poll to include it and count your vote for the 10mm.

Mine is either my PCR or S&W Shield.

Being that this is after all a CZ forum, it's no surprise that only semi-auto calibers were chosen, over 73% of it being 9mm, which is my current carry caliber as well.
Nothing wrong with the poll but kinda limited on a site like this.

I see revolver calibers listed on the poll........

My carry is a P-01, 9mm.

My P07 in .40 S&W.

Modern duty 9 mm ammunition does anything 40 S&W and 45 ACP can do when dealing with human adversaries. I see no reason to reduce ammo capacity for a false sense of "stopping power".
-
A Sig fastback carry 1911 in .45 . Conceals easier than you might think . It disappears IWB and gets close OWB in a high ride kydex that I had made for it .

Cool gun! Didn't they make those in 357 Sig as well?

Usually it's a Ruger LCR in 38 spl, but have also carried my XDS, 45 ACP

A .38 special LCR is in my left front pocket as I type. I have thought about trading it for one of the new LCR's in 9 mm.

Glock 30sf 45. I trust my life as well as my families on it. Small, 11 rnds, and lethality accurate. But the canik s120 stays within arms length on the night stand at night too... can't be too under prepared.

My everyday carry is a Springfield XDS in .45 and I always have a Kel-Tec. 32 in my pocket when at home.
-
CZ 75 shadow in 9mm, haven't ever found a gun that fits me better. I will say that the 75b I carried before was a little comfyer but I think a good holster will fix that the upswept beaver tail just digs a little.

Will do Viking. Moon clips put me off at first, but my LCR is almost always a BUG, and I almost never carry reloads for it anyway.

Right now, my P226 in .40 caliber but after today's range visit, it may change.
I voted .40 caliber but I carry 9mm also.

I carry my CZ 40P most. I occasionally carry the Rami BD.

CZ 75 SP01. 9mm.

Not surprising that .380 is #2. CZ makes beautifully shooting .380's. It's also popular on the Walther site. I'm a PPS .40
-
I'm somewhat surprised that the .380 didn't score even higher, given the press it has been getting and the number of new guns being made for it. I think if wives had been included in the poll it would have (IMHO) scored even better, as would the .38 Special given the number of snubbies being purchased for wives these days. Very interesting poll.

I also like Walthers and did a poll there the same day we started this one. The results are similar, but .40S&W barely is beating .380 for now. This really surprised me with the PPK being such an important model for Walther. Lots of folks do like them in .32 though.
-
Good poll. On this forum, the majority of 9mm does not surprise. While I shoot .45 and love it, I carry and compete with 9mm. For me, there's no question.
P-01 - fall to spring, M&P Shield - summer

No option to select multiple calibers? I carry a few different pistols depending on mood as well as what I am wearing.
.45acp in a 4" 1911, 9mm in a BHP, waiting on an IWB holster for my CZ-75 Shadow, or .380 in a Colt Mustang.

Over the years I've carried all of the calibers in the poll except for the 10mm
Ok so really, if the 380 is such a commonly carried rnd, when will the prices come down?
Thinking as I'm typing here,,..all of those 380 newpocket pistols ( I have a older LCP ) are probably owned and carried way more than they are shot at the range.
I've had my Ruger LCP for three years and I'm guessing I've ran less than 300 ends throught it.
So I therefore conclude while there are a ton of 380 pistols out there, the demand on the cartridge may be low since they may be shot much less than a 45 acp. I guess they makers of it as a result which causes their cost to make it higher.
-
And I'll bet that if you've fired 300 rounds through a small .380, you've fired at least five times as much ammo through it as the average .380 carry person has. Same with a .38 Special snubby.
-
I loved shooting my 642 (when I had it). I actually don't mind the LCP but I do have a Hogue grip and stronger Wolf recoil spring on it and that helps a lot!
I noticed that although there is an "other" category, no body used it yet. No 44's? The 44 special is a great caliber. Similar to 45. acp.
-
I carry four guns but not at the same time. lol Mostly nines.
-
.....................................I noticed that although there is an "other" category, no body used it yet. No 44's? The 44 special is a great caliber. Similar to 45. acp.
I think the biggest reason for that is that large frame revolvers are much harder to conceal than a large auto, even if it has been cut down, and a bit heavier too. The only exception is something like a Charger Arms .44 snubby, but the recoil and blast on a rig like that would be grimmer than grim. Just IMHO.

Do you mean Charter Arms? I have had a couple Charter Arms Bulldogs in .44 Special and they are more pleasant to shoot than a comparable sized .357. Sure, they fling a big bullet,,,,, but it is only going slightly faster than a brisk walking pace.
-
Yes, I meant Charter Arms. Glad to hear you like shooting them so much. With my arthritic hands the thought of firing off a snubby with a big bullet makes me hurt just thinking about it.
-
Here of late, I've been carrying either my SR1911 CMD or my M&P45 Compact. Once the weather warms, I'll add the CZ 75 Compact .40. or my Sig P229 in .40.

Springfield XDS in 9mm is my everyday carry

I find this poll interesting as so many people will not offer love (or admit) to 380ACP handguns for CCW yet it is the 2nd most carried behind 9mm.
I would prefer to carry a 9mm but need something extremely compact yet manageable in case of need. I carry a Sig P238 (380ACP) and sometimes a Beretta 25ACP Bobcat (depending on wardrobe).

Just from reading various forums. ;D
IMO, if you need your firearm it will be for a target within 7 yards. 9MM would be nice if you're carrying a CZ75 D (or similar) but 380ACP will do the job (as would 25ACP). LEO's aside, most don't take into account what the situation could be or what your mindset would be at the time you need to draw your firearm in self defense.
For myself, it's a sub-compact and taking into account what I mentioned (and including using one hand and managing recoil/accuracy), a 380ACP works; and most 'manly-men' feel a 380ACP isn't manly enough. I say to most, would you like a first hand account what a 380 feel like?
Whether its bolstering or not,....I believe everything I read on the interwebs.

I'm surprised there aren't more votes on the .40, as there are a ton of Glock 23s and 27s floating around.

Let me add my observation to this, and I'm not trying to dethrone Capt. Obvious. The .380ACP is most likely a decision based on the size of the weapon and not a decision made on caliber. The LCPs/Shields/(choice you own favorite .380) exist because that make a better back-up than sticks and stones. Granted I'm influenced by what I sold many LE types in my 6 years in LE sales, but when there were runs on .380s in LE, there was a corresponding run on the retail side of the business.
Am I a fan?: no. Do I own one?: yes. Do I carry it?: only when I feel there is no other choice.
Sorry Capt'n.

Right now I'm carrying a Bersa in 380.

Well since I am active duty law enforcement I would have to say .40 S&W. Glock model 22 (Gen4).

My EDC is a Taurus 617 snubby, loaded with .38 special.
-
I carry a S&W Bodyguard 380, it's small and lives in my front pocket comfortably.
It has all the features you would want. Last round hold open, loaded chamber indications.
It has a manual thumb safety, that I never use, but it's there, and I don't mind it.
I like that it will fire without the magazine. Crimson Trace laser for fun.
Good sights, and it's easy to rack the slide.
And I'm confident that the Corbon JHP it's slinging will destroy targets as intended.
The S&W bg380 replaced my Gen 1 KelTec p32 that I pocket carried for years. That little 32acp has never failed to fire, and I Would trust my life to the Privi Partisan JHP to critically damage targets

No, I prefer to carry something a little smaller like my Walther PPK however that will probable change once I get to the woods / range this weekend and shoot my CZ82 and my Polish P83. Both in the 9mm Makarov. I just purchased them both and have not had a chance to fire them but I like the size and fit.

I stopped by a gun shop on my way home yesterday. THey had 2 PPK's. One was a .32 made by Interarms. The other was a .380 made in West Germany. I was very tempted to get both of them or at least one of them.

Shorts and tee shirt or slacks and polo shirt carry is a Ruger LCR 38Special in a SoCo Kydex IWB holster. Jeans or khakis and an Aloha shirt carry is a Sig Nightmare 1911 with Bar-Sto 38Super barrel in a Ross slide holster, soon to be a Dan Wesson Guardian in 38Super.

Only 2 truths I live by in life
A-Jesus is the son of God
B-any gun can be chosen but it must be 100% reliable-i dont care what you carry..22 short beats tossing a can of spaggetti o's

Living in FL and wearing shorts, a 380 is undetectable. When I take trips in the car 9mm concealable with high (33) cap mags. If I need something that my wife can use easily and safe she will carry a snob 38 in her bag.

Live in FL myself, but I prefer a wheel gun. It is big so no shorts for me.

9mm - Glock 26 or SW 940 (9mm revolver).

glock 42 in 380

I typically carry a Kahr K9 in the warmer weather... colder weather typically my Sig P220.

-
Thought I would add my 2 cents... I personally think a .40 is the best calibre for everyday carry... sufficient amount of rounds in a mag and more than enough stopping power... but if you are caught unexpected no matter what calibre you carry you are at the mercy of your attacker/s
-
9 or 45 for winter, 380 or mak (once Humpty's put back together) for summer.
-
Depends on where or when. Out in the woods a 357 Ruger Blackhawk (use it a lot at the range with the 9mm cylinder) For CCW a PCR or a Shield. When I open carry it's a alloy 1911 in 45acp. Is I get a nice holster I'll put the alloy frame Canik S-120 in the rotation.
-
My two favorite calibers are 9mm and .45acp. My caliber of choice at this time is 9mm. It isn't the most powerful round, but it is easy to find high capacity mags and ammo is cheaper so I can practice more.

9mm -- Browning, Makarov, or Luger.

9mm is just the bee's knees. A quality 9mm self-defense round, especially if you go ahead and make it +P, has terminal ballistics that are pretty much 'good enough' by any standard. Even in +P form, it's so easy to control that I don't see why anyone would go with .380 or .32...maybe those rounds were relevant when 9mm mostly dwelled in full-size duty pistols, but that's just not the case these days.
As for the 'superior' rounds, i.e. those with greater muzzle energy:
Standard .45 loads, especially those with the heavier bullets, are actually pretty close to 9mm+P in muzzle energy. It takes the higher velocity rounds to really give it any edge; whether that actually translates to a more effective round is debatable. Recoil is certainly more noticeable, and I don't find that the argument of a 'bigger hole' really holds much water; not a lotta difference in the actual size of expanded .45 hollow points versus 9mm. Still, I like .45...but I'd just rather have the extra 9mm rounds.
.40 is just terrible to me. In the only apples/apples comparison I've experienced (USP compacts), recoil is worse than .45. It's snappy, it's loud, and, yet again...am I really any more likely to incapacitate a target with it than with 9mm+P?

Primary-9mm CZ 75 or Glock 19, pocket back up S&W Model 60 .357.

I have 4 primary carries -
First and newest CZ P-01 w/ decocker. (recently experienced FTF issues)
Second - Sig P-226 MK 25. Tack Driver
Third - CZ 75B Brushed Stainless. Also a Tack Driver and sometimes moves to # 1 or #2.
Fourth - Springfield XD Sub 9. Completely reliable in any conditions.
For really Concealed Carry the Springfield XDS 45 or the lightweight CZ P-07 Duty.
I have others but still prefer any of the above. For going in the mountains in CO or in states that foolishly restrict mag capacity ... the CZ 97B.
Even bears faint when they see that one.

I find it amusing most places all scream for the biggest hole possible, but obviously by the poll cz guys/gals love their 9mm O0

More 9mm here. Primarily PX4sc OWB or Nano in the pocket. I do enjoy carrying the pitbull revolver in.40S&W OWB that rides higher up and feels pretty lite -- 5 rounds might have something to do with that.

My every day carry is CZ P07 ( Gen 2 ) in 9mm and sometimes CZ 75B in 9mm.

New to the CZ game, was carrying 1911s until the muzzle/holster body started wearing holes in my jeans. Still love the platform but needed something a little shorter barreled so enter the 75 compact. For now, 9 mm. Good caliber, makes a great bullet hose out of the CZ. I am more effective at long range with the 1911 (sight radius, slicked up triggers) but more than good enough on the CZ. I like the capacity 9mm gives. Quality JHP in any caliber (9/40/45) is practically the same if not academically so

Have a .357 Sig Barrel for the .40, and have Federal HST for that.

9mm in many Pistols, this summer will be a Walter PPS M2, winter will be a HK P2000. I'm looking for CZ P01 and that isn't easy to find.

On a monthly rotation, a CZ75 pre B (current), a Browning High Power, both 9mm and a Sig P220 .45 caliber.

Professional men all agree:
.38 Special +P.
I have argued this for many years. If you are talking about deep concealment, then the S&W 638 Airweight Bodyguard is THE CCW.
If you are wearing a suit, then you have a lot of freedom. If you take off your suit coat and/or waistcoat/vest, then you can't hide a standard length handgun anymore. Fitted shirts and trousers don't help conceal.
As a right-handed person, I carry a S&W 638 in my RH trouser pocket. I use a "pocket holster."
This goes to the "something is better than nothing" philosophy. When I enter the court building, I have to check my 638 before the metal detector. (We have lockers similar to the YMCA, etc,). When I leave and hit the street, I armed. I have never been "made" with the S&W 638.
The 642 and 638 are more or less similar. I prefer the 638 because it would theoretically help with aimed shooting. I

My carry caliber has been 9mm as long as I've carried, aside from brief dalliances with 10mm and .45ACP back when I carried Glocks.
My daily carry now is a Cajunized UG P-07 and it is soon to get milled for an RMR.
IMO you just can't beat the capacity and control you get from 9mm in a mid to full sized pistol.

Currently carrying STI Guardian in 45. It has been flawless. Recently tried to switch to a Glock 19 but it was a total fail. I see a P-01 Omega in my future and if it shoots half as good as my surplus CZ 75 it will be my next EDC.

I'm not sure if you're asking me, but I don't have a PPS. I do have this that I carry on occasion:

Depending on how I dress (weather related) I carry one (or more) of the following:
STI Escort in .45 (6 rounds +1)
CZ P01 in 9mm (15 rounds with a Sphinx magazine +1)
Sphinx Sub Compact in 9mm (13 rounds +1)
Sphinx SDP Semi Compact (17 rounds +1)
I have carried other guns like my CZ 97B or my Glock 19 as well. Just depends on how I'm feeling.
