Does anyone know if it is possible to put a cz 75 compact slide on a Rami frame? Why or why not, and what would be required to pull it off? Thanks in advance!
-
Yes...can be done.
the back of the slide and frame do not line up and need some blending.
depending on tolerances some other fitting may be needed.
mechanically on first run through it seemed to function fine.
You'll need a Rami lower and a compact upper.
So you may be into two pistols.
-
Thanks Stuart! When you say blending... Is it best to remove material from the frame or the slide or both? Do you have any pictures of the one you made? What were your thoughts when testing it? Would it really be that great for concealed carry since it would have the benefits of a shorter grip and longer sight radius? Thanks again for chiming in, you have some unique experience and insight with these guns and it's really appreciated!
-
Our guys our finishing up this build. I should have photos soon.
the frame is longer than the slide at the rear. so to make look nice needed to blend the frame to the slide.
At first glance it is pretty cool. Very small frame to conceal ( wish it could be thinner ) and a decent sight radius.
I will know more once the gunsmiths get the pistol finished up and I get a chance to see and handle it.

Oh I understand now. I'm excited to see the photos and hear how it turns out. The gun I wish for the most is a CZ 75 single stack! I carry a sig p938 right now, and although mine has been reliable I fear it's fate will be like most other p938's. I would love if cz would finally jump on the band wagon. Thanks again for sharing the info!

I'm working on a similar project, but have almost decided to go for a full-sized 75/85 slide. I did find an SP01 slide for $450 and a Compact one for $225; both more than I had planned on spending. I think my unicorn would be an 85 Combat slide, but that's just cosmetics.
Have you found a slide/RAMI combo you're thinking about putting together?
-
No I haven't... I wanted to first see if the Rami frame would take larger 75 slides. I don't know if I would go bigger than a compact slide. I thought of a shadow slide since they are on cz custom, since I could get just the slide, but that'd be pretty large for concealed carry. Plus, I doubted the dust cover would fit with the Rami frame. Have your tried the full size slide to see if the dust cover would work or if there would be a gap?
Does anyone know if I had slots machined into the slide to reduce weight (like what is done for porting) if that would compromise the slide? If not, any ideas on how much could be taken off safely?

Stuart, when I tried my PCR slide on my RAMI BD frame the slide would not lock back on an empty magazine. Here is a picture of the gun.

Someone did the opposite as well: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=69370.0 (http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=69370.0)
Looking forward to the end result Stuart!

The full-sized slides will work. Look at my picture request thread. I, too, was wondering how much could be milled off for weight without compromising strength. My guess is a profile like the RAMI-P milled into a 75/85 slide would go a long way. Ports or slots would be good too. That's a lot of time and $, though, and my budget just doesn't allow for that. The RAMI frame is the part that matters to me for CCW, not so much the slide length.

It is too bad they don't sell slides individually (outside of the few on cz custom). If my TS slide would fit I could just make a carry pistol with the ultimate sight radius... I'll probably just get a 75 compact next (unforeseen future) and carry that every so often. If anyone ends up with a hybrid pistol with the Rami frame and a larger slide please share a range report and thoughts on functionality.

I was trying so hard to forget about the XCR.. Now that I'm looking at the pics again I really wanna build one! O0

I'll trade my Rami upper for your PCR upper toward that build!

That's my goal. I'd sure like to see a TS slide on a RAMI frame, just for fun! Anybody able to snap a pic?

Would look incomplete without an adjustable stock and front grip.
Jokes aside, the TS slide meeds a lot of fitting to slide into any other standard CZ75 variant, including the Rami. It is quite wide. You might not get that picture you want to see.

The problem is that the groove cut in the upper for the slide stop to pop up into is not long enough. It's a pretty simple fix just need to cut/remove some material from the slide untill the slide stop works.
-
How about a pic?
-
Sold the rami long slide I did this on but haven't been able to bring myself to sell the XCR yet.
I could get a pic up of a generic Cz slide showing what needs remove tho if you would like.
-
That would be awesome to see the pic if you wouldn't mind. What is the XCR I have heard mentioned a few times?
-
You can see it here: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=69370.0 (http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=69370.0)
It's essentially a RAMI slide on a PCR frame, the forum member did some real nice custom work to get it fit really well.
-
Alright the easiest way to get started is to take your rami and remove the slide stop, now looking in the slide stop hole closest to the safety pull the slide all the way to the rear. Watch the groove in the slide that the slide stop pops up into and it's relationship to this hole. Now swap slides and do the same thing and you will see that the compact upper slide stop groove needs to be lengthened to get the slide stop to work.
Here is a pic of the stop where material needs removed.

Go to the link above and on page 3 you'll fine the XCR and a rami with a compact slide.

Thanks for posting the picture and directing me over to that other thread. That guy's Rami was pretty tricked out in the end and it was perfect to see the compact slide on there and read what he had to say.
-
'That guy' is our very own thompsoncustom!
-
HA! Thompson forgive me for that mental lapse and not connecting that was your Rami project (it's finals week and all my brain power is going towards statistics for QA). Your Rami is super good looking! And thanks again for sharing all your knowledge and experience.
-
No problem at all just glad I was able to help out. Good luck on your finals.
-
Make a nice build. Super nice to shoot.

That is good looking! Reminds me a little of my friends Springfield xds 4.0 in 9mm with the nice extra sight radius, slide weight, and barrel length. Wish cz did this from the factory, or let us order mix and match. Came across this thread in the reloading section and there's a nice Rami frame with a full size slide. Looks really nice! Thanks again for sharing Stuart!

My RAMI with a .40 SP01 Tactical slide. Does a 75 or 85 slide have a longer "cup" for the recoil spring and guide rod? Photos I've seen of a 75B slide on a RAMI don't have the gap...

got my slide and hammer! Took quite a bit of 'adjustment' to the hammer, and still more to go, but it's functional. Cost me a touch more than I wanted, so plans for an RSL, Fiber front, and weight loss will have to wait.

So much nicer with the 14rnd mags too
