Title: Cajun Gun Works 97B "E" Titanium is Home!
Post by: Captain Jack 805 on January 01, 2017, 05:04:07 PM
*02/26/17 - Update on next page. I finally got to shoot this one*  :)

Happy Holidays Everyone! I hope you all had a good season

I wanted to share another CGW beauty that just got home. This was my X-Mas present to myself and I could not be happier! I haven't shot it yet but plan on getting to the range in the next couple of weeks. Been busy with the family otherwise I would have gone today. I sent this guy off at the end of September and started saving my pennies. This is my 4th Cajunized gun so I had a good idea what I wanted to do with it. After a 3 month wait, I ended up with the following at a cost of just over $1136 (& worth every day waited and every penny spent!):

I haven't shot it yet but I am sure it will be incredible, I'll have an update afterwards. I still need to get out and shoot my SP01 Black Shadow a bit more as well, just no time with the holidays.

Ok, onto the pictures! The color looks more bronze here than it really is, just the lighting I guess.

You can see the extended mag release a bit better here. They take an SP01 extended release and grind it to fit the 97B for a few extra bucks. I love how it feels and would say to definitely get this done if you have a 97.

The trigger ended up at 2 pounds, 8 ounces and has almost no take up. 1mm of reset means the thing hardly moves from beginning to end. I have this same set up on 2 other CGW guns and love it.

I went with a different rear sight on this one just to try something new. I'll report back on how it compares to the Shadow Target that I have on my other guns but it looks great.

Just a beautiful gun all around. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks again to David and Scott for another awesome CGW build, you guys are the best!

I'm not sure, CGW sold them to me. If you like them call or email CGW to get a pair. I think they were $40.

Wow! just an outstanding looking gun. bar none. Gotta get one of those someday!  can you please measure and post a picture of the overall thickness of the grip area? meaning a pict from behind the gun? with a measurement to detail width?  please?

thanks,

Ill give it a shot for you. The g10 grips are pretty thin, maybe just a hair thicker than the thin aluminum ones.

Ok, without having a caliper, I did measure it out to just a hair less than 1 and 3/16 of an inch. As I mentioned the grips feel fairly thin and similar to the aluminum ones that it had.

I took some more pics in outdoor lighting, I think this shows the color a bit better. We have had lousy weather and I still haven't made it to the range yet with this one but I will as soon as I can. At least I get to fondle it every night!

Ok, I got a chance to finally shoot this guy and have to say that I am mighty impressed! I wasn't able to get a bench to put it on paper so I had to limit myself to shooting the steel plates.  I could pretty much hit everything I aimed at unless I started trying for the 75 yard gong then it was pretty tough.

The gun was initially tight but seemed to loosen up a tiny bit over the first 150 rounds.  I shot a variety of Freedom and Winchester ammo and then tried some Perfecta which did not feed well and had consistent FTF problems.  I chalked it up to cheap ammo and the gun breaking in though the FM and Win never gave me any issues.  I do plan on going back out in a couple of weeks to put it on paper and see what kind of groups I can get out of it.

SLOSA: A great range, but too bad its slammed on Saturdays. At least the steel plates were open.  I felt sorry for the Zombies because it was raining lead on them! If the Zombacalypse ever happens a Cajunized CZ is going to be your best friend...head shots from 15 yards all day long!

My Arsenal...I shot the SP-01 the best, but then again, that gun is a dream to shoot.... the 97b was next easiest to shoot even though I'm still getting used to it. The weight soaks up recoil and the sights are really easy to pick up and shoot distant targets.  I definitely like the sights.  The Copperhead is fun too but not as quick with the follow up shots without the added weight that the other 2 have.  The TacSol Buckmark is a laser gun.

Twins! I met my buddy at the range who has this gun's near twin. It is Cerakoted in Tungsten, has different grips and a HiViz front sight but is otherwise identical so it was pretty cool to have another 97BE to compare mine with. His shot just as nicely though I think mine is just a hair smoother! :p
(http://i.imgur.com/1Osm1pA.jpg)

I have the Black Shadow more or less dialed in and it seems like that CGW Bushing really does make it a tight shooter. It felt like I was hitting the plates without any real effort and I am not that good of a shot! :D
I'll put this one on paper next time as well to see what it can do, but I suspect I'll be impressed.

Overall had a great time even though I couldn't really do an accuracy test.  I think the 97b sights are pretty well dialed and just need a bit of tweeking to be perfect, still the gun is probably more accurate than I'll ever be.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Captain Jack: Which model LPA sight are you using on this gun?

Thanks!!

On the SP01 and the Copperhead I have the LPA TRT "Shadow Target" Sight

On the 97B I have the LPA "Novak Cut" Adjustable Sight

Both require milling your slide but are great sights and worth the money imo. I love CZs but always find the stock sights hard to use for some reason. The FO front with solid black rear makes picking up the sights and aiming at targets so much easier. I am still trying to figure out which one I like more, but since both are fully adjustable, its really more of an aesthetic thing. The Novak came with a metal adjustment wrench that has 3 different sized flat heads which was a nice touch.

This thread is totally depressing me. I have enother 4 or so weeks before my CGW 97b is done. I have no idea what made me look at the beautiful pictures you guys posted.   :( .
I thought I had it under control.  Not any more.

That sir,  is a beautiful pistol in both looks and the set-up.
If I wanted a 97,  yours would be the exact model.

This gun looks fantastic!  I'm thinking of having the 1911 bushing conversion done on my 97BD

Oh wow. I like that. I think cz had all kinds of new grips for the 97 now. I'm digging the burnt orange ones. How much did it cost you to paint yours. That's freaking nice.

Thank you, and yes CZs are almost like Barbie Dolls in terms of customization. The Frame Cerakote was $150 or so if I remember correctly. I like the 2 tone look myself but you can do the whole gun as well.

Sweet! For my big hands, the aluminum grips were just too thin, and so I ordered the rubber grips which are just perfect for me.

FWIW, the SP-01 is the perfect range pistol. Shoots 9mm (cheap), recoils like a .22LR, and is perfectly ergonomic. The only bad thing is that it is an ammo hog, i.e., with the big magazine and nominal recoil you can easily go through 400-500 rounds and still be wanting to shoot. Shoot the paper targets, shoot the steels, shoot the paper targets so more, shoot the steels some more, repeat . . . . . way too easy to burn through $100 of ammo in an hour.

I agree, the SP-01 is the gun that I would keep if I could only keep just 1 (heaven forbid! :o) It is able to do everything well and makes you look like a good shot, especially after a trip to Louisiana!
