Good afternoon everybody.
I got the pictures of a CZ 75 pre B model from a seller in Italy.
I am intentioned to buy her.
It was rebarelled in 7.65 Parabellum since 9 mm Luger is still forbidden to civilians in Italy (not for carbines) and when the gun was imported 9x21 IMI wasn't born yet.
Can you please check the pictures and tell me if in your opinion its an original blue finish or if the gun has been reblued and refinished instead ?
Any advise and suggestion is well accepted.
Thank you in advance.

That is a very interesting and nice looking CZ 75. I cannot help with determining if it has been refinished. However, it appears to be a 1982-1983 CZ 75 based on the Made in Czechoslovakia mark on a single line and the safety having the second larger hole in the middle.
The pistols of that time were blued and not painted with the later enamel like finish starting in 1984. It's a nice blue on these older CZs but nothing super special. Even if it has been re-blued, as long as its nicely done and still in excellent condition, that is what would matter to me. I would love to shoot it in that caliber.
Good luck with your purchase decision. If you do buy it, give us an update when you receive it and on how it shoots.
Edit - When I shoot the older models, I replace the original "waffle" grips and the slide stop with newer versions to preserve them.

Have very much the same opinion as Psyop96 as far as the bluing goes, looks very good from the pics......are you looking to turn it back to 9mm? Just curious what the seller is asking for it?
-
Can't say for sure about the bluing, but the markings on the gun look nice and deep. If it was re-blued, it certainly wasn't filed much if at all. Looks nice to me.
-
Thanks to all partecipants to this discussion.
Well, should she be reblued, her value for collectors would immediately reduced of about one half. That's why I asked as first question.
Seller asked me 600? that is about $655.
I can't unfortunately change the caliber of the gun so must still keep it in 7.65 Parabellum unless I find and official registered barrel in 9x21 since, as I said, heand guns in 9 mm Luger are forbidden to civilians in Italy.
ETA this gun is a bit rare in Italy with 9 mm Para still engraved over her slide since generally all references to 9 mm Parabellum must be removed by milling the slide.

Hmm, unusual Nickname , reminds me of Claudio Bizio !

I am registered in all forums in Italy, abroad and across the pond as Bizio, or Bizio61 whenever Bizio is already taken.
It stands for Fabrizio, my first name.

Thank you for sharing some information on firearms ownership in Italy. That would be a very desirable CZ 75 in the States. There have been a recent flood of surplus ones but not from this period and much lesser overall quality. Will this be more of a collector piece or for shooting too?
-
You're very welcome.
I will ad it to my collection since I have an extended special firearms collection license.
IMHO it's no worth to shoot with such a beauty in very good shape which probably just shooted few rounds at the firearms proof bank.

This is a 1981 that came complete with the original colorful cardboard box. Supposedly only shot at the factory but once a year, I will try to shoot around 20 rounds or so for that satisfaction. It's difficult to take photos to properly show off the blue. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/a1c1679570d090663f0d0b243802bf88.jpg)

Very nice gun !
The original grips are same plastic model as the one I published above?

Thanks. Yes, the same "waffle" plastic grips with the old CZ logo.

I bought the CZ 75 five minutes ago. Serial number is # 80994.
She will be here in my hands in about 2 weeks since seller must ship it from Rome to a local dealer in Milan where I live.
Thanks again for your interventions to this thread.

Congratulations. Sounds like a 1983 made one.
-
Thank you.
The dealer in Rome, a good friend of mine who received the gun from seller, had the chance to personally view the gun few minutes ago and he told me she is in perfect shape.
The blued finish has two slightly different colours : black on the slide and slightly reddish on the frame.

Hi Bizio, that reminded me of Bisio , cause I'm from Malta , and we watch lots of Italian tv over here.

Sounds like you have is a blued frame with what's sometimes referred to as "plum" or some sort of a reddish-brownish-purplish tint to the blued metal. Interestingly, another forum member has indicated his 1983 has a purplish frame and "black" slide while a friend has one that is reversed in coloration.
-
The slightly different colours of the blue finish might be due to a different steel quality used for the frame and for the slide.
As far as I know, but I could be wrong, the slide is machined steel while the frame is metal casted steel.
This dual tones effect is also visible in some Smith & Wesson automatic pistols made during the '80s.

I received confirmation about the original finish also from Czech Republic.
Here is their answer.
"Hello,
Sorry for late answer.
I am not an expert for cz 75 but it seems to be the original one.
Here (http://www.alfa-proj.cz/picture/Testy_zbrane_munice/Pistole-CZ-75/Pistole-CZ-75---clanek1.JPG) you can also find the original one from 1980s
I hope this helps
Best regards,

A PreB with an ORIGINAL blue finish would be a real steal to have. The problem is it appears that they came high gloss AND matte, so it would be hard to tell an original. If I remember correctly, they came to PX gun shops in parked, blued, and black painted finishes. I had an Army buddy who bought all three. I own the painted one today, albeit now in GunKote. The parked and matte blue were nice and preferred, as the painted ones came crappy from the factory - uneven, etc. I saw the others, and they were generally nicer.
I cannot believe I didn't get one myself for the 'mere' $225 they cost back then. But, I didn't have that much money then, and $200 then was still a bunch of money.
Back then, the CZ was full of machine marks, etc. They shot great, and had excellent DA triggers. My SA is still gritty, stages three different ways, but is quite shootable. The DA is beyond excellent. Of course, I've dry fired and polished is much over the years.

Here an interesting link with the history of the CZ-75.
The page is in Czech but can be easily translated into English with Google.

Good link.
BTW - the EARLIER PreBs did have a more oval shaped trigger guard. Later ones were more rounded.
-
Is the barrel of my CZ-75 Type two interchangeable with the barrel of new models as SP01 or dimensions are different instead ?

My CZ-75 arrived today.
She's practically pretty new.

That is stunning looking. With regards to your new barrel question, I once inquired about re-barreling a very early pre-B (1980) and was told the new barrel profile would require some fitting to be done on the slide internals for this particular pistol. This was from a shop that is very familiar with CZs.
-
I asked to CZUB in Czech Republic [emoji1086] in the meantime and they told me that new barrels for SP01 Shadow model unfortunately are not fitting at all my old CZ-75.
