I tried, after degreasing the part thoroughly. But the original finish is some Teflon like coating and the paint slides right off after drying. Wondering if anyone else has had any luck.

From what I have read, the original Canik finish is a form of CeraKote. You probably won't be able to get it to hold another finish without flattening the original finish or removing it.
Forum Member Brian Ahearn works with CeraKote and he would probably be the best one to advise you, should he answer this thread.

Well the pistol needs to be stripped all parts removed , we are talking cerakote here, then the original finish is media blasted off with 100 grit aluminum oxide media parts are degreased again coated and baked then reassembly. Degreasing after after disassembly is the first step in the process. If you have any questions I can be reached at 610-252-5334 est time.

Brian does a lot of cerakote and he knows the Canik's as good or better than anyone. I highly recommend him. Great personable guy as well.
