Title: Disappointed in NJ
Post by: Richrit on December 27, 2017, 07:38:38 PM
Turned in my permit paperwork over a month ago, stopped by the police station today and was told there system was hacked, it may take 3 or 4 months to do a background check. I own a CZ-97, was hoping for the SP-01, so sad.

That really is pathetic.

You are talking about a permit in order to simply PURCHASE a pistol correct? Not a permit to carry it concealed in public? I don't believe the excuse about the system being hacked. NJ just does not care about firearms owners; in fact NJ (as a government entity) actually despises firearms owners. You should have been disappointed about 40 years ago.

That's a significant improvement over when I lived there. They should be hacked more often.

My advice? Get out before they build a wall around that state. It's bad enough you have to pay an exit tax (yes that's real).

Yes, NJ state laws are horrifying towards law abiding gun owners, and the new governor will make it worse. I wish you best of luck, sir.

Oh boy don?t get me started about NJ.... it is hell here. You need a separate handgun permit for each and every handgun. You can only get one handgun per 30 day period, but the permit itself is only good for 90 days, with 1 extension for 90 more days requiring you to go back to your PD for a chief's signature.
Problem is that by the time the PD calls you that the permit is ready, a few weeks could've passed from when it was dated so your 90 days quickly becomes like 75... NJ is a true 2A nightmare and sure to get worse as a result of our recent gubernatorial election.

I applied for 4 handgun permits in early November but won?t see them till at least mid January. And my township is considered one of the faster ones. Some can take well over a year! What town did you apply in?

And then of course there is the AWB...

NJ is worse than pretty much all other states for CCW. Even DC just got CCW. And many counties in NY and CA will issue. It is nonexistent in NJ!

Just in case, we have LOTS of room for good CZ people here in FreeAZ. :)

That shouldn't be difficult. You only have about 49 others from which to choose ;D Even those paradises CA, MA, and NY are better choices (just stay out of NYC)

If retirement income taxes are a factor, then you have only 43 states who will take less of it.

IF the hacking is true,  could you imagine what info is in the wrong hands?    Firearm make/model/serial # and their housed location!
Imagine anti-gunners using this info to picket or worse,  then there are the thieves.

Try to pump your own gas in New Jersey.  Big government is what must have NJ Utopia. :(
... at least for the elite class.

Guessing talking about your local PD ?

Not the best state to be a gun owner. The permit process is redundant enough let alone the one gun a month which started a few years back.

Good luck, hopefully it won't be that long.

Part of the reason I LEFT NJ way back in 1979. I could NOT abide with the general anti gun attitude there.

I surely starved when I first moved to Montana but do not regret the move.

The pistol permit system is total bullbleep. Too bad the ACLU is anti gun and only interested in furthering their Liberal agenda. The pistol permit BS in Jersey would be a perfect test case , showing it's against the 2nd Amendment, and a form of gun control.

MOVE. You will be far happier.

Actually we have been voted number 1 for firearms freedoms 5 years running by Guns and Ammo magazine. ;) Yeah, we like that. And I compared crime rates between Phoenix, our closest thing to a big city, to Chicago, with the WIDE difference in laws...with over half the population, PHX has less than 20% of the violent crime. We like being able to defend ourselves...

You are fortunate to live in a state whose laws permit you that luxury.

Happy New Year! Celebrate safely and loudly.

Since waiting sucks, guess i will buy a new rifle. Really like to Ruger 10/22 takedown. Dont need a permit for a rifle, go figure!

And if you try to get an exception for the one handgun a month rule, it takes over a month so you?re basically stuck waiting. My surplus Pre B that arrived at my FFL weeks ago won?t be in my possession till at least the end of February

I find it so interesting that states that have ALWAYS been the most corrupt and crime ridden treat their honest citizenry the worst while never addressing the cause of their woes in the first place. I drove through NJ several years ago and felt I needed a shower as soon as I cleared the state line, unfortunately that led me into NY and I needed steamed before I got out of that cesspool.

Well, you certainly were wrinkle free after that trip!
v35, we've been steadily improving our firearms laws for years, one step at time. Thanks to tireless work from a whole host of dedicated people like Brassroots and AZCDL, we went from having no way to legally conceal in 1994 to Constitutional Carry in 2010. :) It takes work, dedication, and legislators willing to listen. Admittedly my part in all this was quite small, but I did my part.

Yeah the gas pumping thing IS strange...but it did afford jobs for HS kids anyway. At least it did for me and most of my buddies.

The gun situation in Jersey has been crazy for many years. I moved out over 40 years ago. I starved for some time and never made the wages I would have as a cop in NJ....But I don't regret it.
