Standard recoil spring weight?
« on: April 12, 2019, 05:10:52 PM »
What is the standard recoil spring weight?  I've seen 13# and 14#  mentioned. I'll be shooting mostly  225 - 230 gn. reloads (nothing wild), so I want to have the correct spring weight of 14# per
schmeky.

Hiya and thanks for the thread, hammer_fired. I'd also agree with the operator that the standard is 17lbs. And sounds like you also solicited David for his advice related to your choice of 225-230gr, and you will be happy with that we're sure. And you may also get suggestions on 13 to 20lbs as well. And to take notice of how far your brass flys to also adjust the lb. I've never replaced a recoil spring in a gun, since the factory one worked fine. And on a given day will run the low velocity range ammo and the plus p without even thinking about changing out recoil springs. Be well.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just stick with the original spring and call it good.

Just for the heck of it, I went to Wolff springs. They show std being 13#, with 14# - 16# being recommended for hardball. I got David's recommedation from here:  https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=40267.0, which mirrors Wolff's recommendations.

Here's what Wolff Springs shows on their website:

Rating Notes:
  Standard Size Models

    Factory Rating: 14 Lb. - 9mm, .45 ACP, Super .38 and 10mm
Factory Rating: 12 Lb. - .40 S&W all models except CZ
    Factory Rating: 16 Lb. - .40 S&W - CZ Only
Factory Rating: 13 Lb. - CZ 97 .45 ACP   (14-16 Lb springs suggested for hardball in CZ97)
l
I've run just about everything from variable-rate BHP springs (which are a better fit than the Wolff CZ springs -- which are sized to fit the larger diameter Tanfoglio/Witness guide rod) to 20 lb. springs without problems.   I don't shoot as much as I used to (and have been shooting a lot of different brand guns over the years), but found that the BHP springs were almost identical to CZ factory springs, and only get them when buying recoil springs for fulls9ze 75B-based guns.

Yeah seems I got the wrong or conflicting information from a search. Sorry. I did order a 14# from cgw. Have not fired it yet.
