I'm not much of a steel shooter, but....P-10F....maybe
« on: March 23, 2019, 04:27:29 PM »
This morning's range trip was a total diversion, a fun day.  27F air temp, but no wind and sunny, so I knew it would warm up quickly.  Unlike me.  I decided to warm up with Rem UMC ammo from a bucket, 115 gr FMJ, not usually my choice for precision shooting, but, today, it was fine.

The range folks had hung some steel targets that I thought would be fun with the UMC ammo, so I warmed up (literally) shooting the 12" wide plate at 25 yards.  It was stationary and I coudn't tell whether I was hitting it or not, but I knew the hits would be visible in the video if I didn't mess things up too badly.

After the 25 yard steel 10 rounds, I went to timed fire bullseye practice with fair results, but the steel was calling, so, after 60 rounds of bullseye practice with surprisingly good results shooting the UMC ammo, I went back to the steel, even trying the flipper and a hanging pig.  Here is a short video, all at normal speed with no shooting cuts except when I had to move out of position to get an angle on the flipper that only rotated 90 degrees when I hit it.

I don't know if this is a "good" result or not.  Looked good to me, but I don't have any experience with this type of shooting.  It's fun.  Maybe if I turned on my electronic ear muffs I could hear the dings when the bullets hit the steel.  Nope, if I started hearing a series of dings I would loose focus and start missing shots.

All I can say is that the P-10F is perfect for this type of shooting, after some break in and a little work on the trigger.  I am really liking the striker trigger.  It has enough feel for me to control well without even thinking about it.  I am enjoying it so much, that I am likely to have some problems at first when I go back to a hammer gun, even the Kadet.  This has been a good weekend for me and the P-10F.  I may not shoot the P-09 or P-07 much this year.  Pretty sure I will be spending my time with the striker guns and the Kadet, with a little 97B"E" time thrown in for old time's sake.

I am far from eliminating all of the flinches and trigger jerks that come from adapting to a new gun, but I am making progress.

Welcome to the fun of shooting steel. :) I actually love hearing the dings, because at long range it lets me know I hit my target, especially with, say, the BREN at 200 yards standing. For you, the P-10F at 100 yards with a small gong. :D

AM--I can't hear the steel dings with my ears on.  And, at 100 yards, I can't see the swingers swingin',  so I am glad I had a video!

I got the CZ Custom adapter plate for the Burris for the OR P-10F and I have already installed it.  Perfect fit, thank you CZ Custom!

I gotta zero the P-10F for the third time in 2 weeks, but this should be the last time.  I put the P-09 sight back on the P-09 so I get to zero it again also.  Oh well, life should be so hard--get to zero my absolutely dead accurate P-09 and then my newest absolutely dead accurate CZ P-10F.  I can handle it.   :)

Joe,
Get a can of cheap fast drying flat black spray paint. Refresh the steel plate when its hard to read your hits. Splatters are easy visible on the fresh painted steel.
When shooting metallic silhouettes we do it after each hit while resetting targets to identify errors and do sighting correction if needed.

Absolutely - I call my $.99 can of spray paint "insta target". Also, the other shooters out there have brutalized that steel target - the swinging plate is dangerously damaged and should never be used for anything but recycling. I've seen this before, when morons got beyond the limits of the material because they want to see "will it stop muh 30-06 AP round?" Good shooting, and turn the electronics on - hearing the "ping" is half the fun of steel.

What a lazy pig, he barely moved! I think you got him though Joe, i doubt that he will be messing with you any time soon.  ;D

Thank you for the video.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Joe L, you would be great at Steel Challenge type shooting. For you, the targets would look so big and close, it would be easy to shoot them fast!
That?s how I practice. 10? steel plates at 35 yards makes the targets seem really close.
