What is the length of a CGW extended firing pin?
« on: September 05, 2021, 12:57:08 PM »
Ordered a #61050 extended firing pin for my 75B.  My stock firing pin measures 2.469", the extended firing pin measures 2.472".  Only .003" longer, did they send me a stock firing pin or one for a different model??    ???

With the firing pin assembled in the slide both firing pins are essentially the same to the breech face hole, with the lifter down and the firing pin pushed all the way in the stock pin protrudes about .070" from the breech face and the "extended" one protrudes about .050".   >:(

That sounds right to me. The extended part I believe is a slightly longer protrusion from the rear of the slide over the stock pin and not the firing end of the pin.

It does protrude a bit more at the hammer end, maybe .020" but that makes sense instead of longer overall length.  I am about one step behind Sleepy Joe so a bit slow now.

Here they are side by side for those interested:

I have a couple OEM and CGW firing pins for both the 75 series and the 97 series.  I also have one that I'm not sure where it came from, it may be a CZ Custom Extended firing pin out of my wife's PO1 but I'm not positive on that.

75 OEM:  2.440
75 CGW:  2.489

97 OEM:  2.558
97 CGW:  2.600

CZCustom 75???:  2.482

FYI your SA probably doesn't need an an extended firing pin.  You can run the OEM hammer spring with a competition hammer and get a really crisp trigger pull that is a reasonable pull weight.  Just a action polish and you will have an excellent trigger pull.

Cheers,
Toby

Back in 2016 I measured the OEM and extended pins I had on hand and they measured different than you measured.  Not sure if they have changed subsequently but yours seems in between these lengths?

One thing you gain using a CGW extended firing pin is the ability to use the SRS lifter which will shorten your reset.

Cheers,
Toby
