Recommended Self Defense Ammo for CZ P10C?
« on: November 03, 2022, 10:45:39 PM »
I have only shot Blazer 9mm 115g at the range.

Is there a brand of Self Defense ammo that is recommended? I guess if I go with a larger grain I will have better defensive opportunities but I am worried I won't be able to shoot as well.

I would rather be more accurate then more lethal.

Any tips would be helpful, I am still a newbie.

We have a whole Directory full of articles on the intricacies of buying GOOD ammo for the CZ. HERE It's a lot more complex than you might first think. You don't want to over-think it, but you still need to make some wise choices. You definitely want to take your barrel with you when you go shopping !

There are articles explaining fit. The newer SD ammo reviews are leaning toward heavier bullets, but not all 147gr bullets are able to chamber correctly in the CZ. This is why you might prefer a 135gr.

• Within that directory is a link to the ammo testing done by Lucky Gunner, a well-respected ammo test group. That will give you the results.

Match fit with results and you'll be a winner.

Hope this helps.

All my 9MM CZs do well with 115 grain ammo.  I've only shot a small amount of 124 grain ammo in one or two and only one brand/bullet type and the 115s were better.  I've only shot one brand of 147 grain hollow points in a P01 Omega and was not impressed.

I've shot a variety of 147 grain bullets (reloads) in my CZs and the groups look like I'm shooting an M&P 9MM, not a CZ.

The 124's I've shot in the CZ are the Winchester FMJ NATO ammo bought for an M&P (which does pretty well with that ammo) and the CZs were just not impressive with that ammo.  I've only done a small amount of reloading with 124 grain hollow points and can't say how that might turn out.

All my CZ 9MM like Federal 115 grain FMJ for range use.  Like means it functions and shoots nice groups.  The Winchester and Remington 115 grain FMJ is not as accurate in my pistols.

The 115 grain hollow points I've shot are reloads.  Function and shoot nice groups in all the 9MM CZs.  I've not tried any of the big name ammo makers hollow points in my CZs.  I did, just once, buy a box of 9MM 115 grain hollow points loaded by a company in GA.  I don't remember the name (there are at least a couple) as it was 9 or 10 years back.  Joe, here on the forum recommended them (by way of showing us videos of him shooting his P09 9MM at 100 and 200 yds. using that ammo) and they shot really nice groups.  It's why I bought some Precision Delta 115 grain hollow points and started reloading them for my pistols.

I lot of guys here load/shoot 124 grain ammo and report it does well in their pistols.  I just haven't used much of that bullet weight.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I'm thinking that heavier bullets are now preferred because they are less likely to go through a perp and hurt a bystander behind the perp. Also, they retain more energy after penetrating glass or heavy denim. However, the 115gr Speer Gold Dots do test out very consistently.

Whatever the FBI is using, that's where you want to start.

I can tell you that the Hollow Point ammo with "small mouths" and the more rounded ogives feed very, very well in CZ pistols.

I’ve got a ton of Speer Gold Dot from the good ole ammo days of 2018-19 when Target Sports USA used to have buy one get one 50% off of JHP. I’ve been carrying that in everything.

As wobbly said check out the links, and try different Ammo, at range to get feel of it.

Comes down to application and preference.
For us I Tested
Hornady 135gr flex locks,
124 gr Hornady xtp,
124gr sellier and bellot,
Sellier and Bellot 100 gr XRG Defense all standard pressure, and
Liberty civil defense +P

135 flex lock did good at 30 yards.

124 xtp wasn’t quite as accurate tho coulda been me.

XRG did about 1” at 40 yards with a rest, and is load out we gravitated to around home.

Due to deeper penetration 135gr flex lock is wood carry for protection from feral hogs.

With some range time, and checking data sheets you’ll figure what’s best for you.
