CZ 455/457 receiver dovetails aligned with barrel bore?
« on: January 11, 2023, 11:01:43 AM »
Firstly, let me state that I do not expect perfect alignment and several articles suggest a properly mounted scope (set at factory optical zero) to have the cross hairs within a couple of inches of what can be seen through the bore at 50 yards?

With the 11mm dovetail milled into the top of the receiver and different scope ring mounts (CZ, BKL and Burris) I am experiencing POI 6 inches below POA and 4-5 inches off to one side…that seems a lot of scope adjustment, especially for windage! I’m using a Sightron SII 36x42mm and confirming rings are centered with alignment bars.

Has anyone else encountered significant differences between a factory zero scope and bore sight at 50 yards? Any tips to avoid the 90 click adjustment on the scope to get POA = POI?

To start from the basic beginning have you properly mounted everything with a level? Please don't take offense if you do know how to properly mount a scope, it's just one of the first things I try to rule out as MANY people do not do a good job and I don't know your experience level.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Yes, used 3 levels (2 on receiver and 1 on the scope)

Ah, great. Sounds like you know what you are doing. :)

I wouldn't say it's impossible for the receiver to be out of spec. But I'd suspect scope first. Has it been used on another rifle? Or are you able to try another optic on the 457? Sightron is not a brand I've used much so I'm not sure what's normal with them. I know they have a generally good reputation but that's about all I know. And everybody puts out the occasional lemon.

Similar issue on a 455 and a 457 with 2 scopes recently purchased and never fitted on anything else. Multiple combinations of trying both scopes on each rifle with different rings...similar results.

I would think if you are experiencing the same issue on different rifles something is wrong with the mounts, rings, or scope not the rifle.  I have several CZ's and never been more than a click out on windage.
