SP-01 Competition
« on: January 18, 2023, 10:47:09 AM »
Recently purchased an SP-01 Competition at a good price so looking for some advice.

Since these are discontinued, when I am looking for parts/springs what would I be looking for? SP-01 or Shadow 2 parts.

The advertising for the gun says it has a reduced spring for using "competition loads".  This gun will just be fun range gun, do I need to worried about shooting standard 115gr standard ammo through this gun?

Thanks for any help.

These are just SP01's that use the standard 75B parts that will be available forever (or as long as cz and the aftermarket stays solvent).  If you are looking for critical spare parts then I'd opt for:

Trigger return spring (CGW's)
Firing pin retaining pin (CGW's)
Slide stop
Recoil Spring (11-15 lb depending on ammunition)
Main Spring (13lb)
Extra Fiber optic for front sight

I don't know what standard ammunition means?  You can tune the ejection distance with the chosen ammunition with the recoil spring.  They sell tuner packs if you are want to get it dialed in with what you are running.

I’ll back up TDogg.

It gets confusing but the Shadow 2 is built on a different frame than yours. The Shadow2’s frame is a bit wider and a little longer.  Some of their parts like slide stops, recoil guide rods and safeties are a little different. I just went through the same thing as you with a SO-01 Shadow 1 that is built on the same frame as yours but without the firing pin safety.

If you are on Cajun’s or CGW and look for parts by model, you can select  CZ75 B SP-01 and it will filter to parts that will work.

You are not going to damage the weapon shooting, store bought ammunition such as CCI 115 grain but I would echo TDogg in using Cajun’s tutorial to make sure you aren’t going to batter the frame. I’d steer clear of NATO spec ammo, +P and Winchester’s new military loading until you can figure the weapon out and tailor to your application. It’s not really set up for hotter loadings. I also don’t know if the installed a longer firing pin in conjunction with the lighter hammer spring. May not like hard primer cups.

If you are new to CZ’s I’d also venture over to the Ammo/reloading section for information on ammo choices and “plunk testing.”  Some CZ’s have short leades or freebore. You have to be careful with some projectiles.

Also your weapon isn’t really discontinued. It has some parts that lend themselves to competition setups but it’s basically a 75B SP-01. Kinda like a Ford Raptor vs F150 or Civic Type R vs a standard.

It’s good looking setup. Some may disagree but the grips, hammer, sights and mag extensions pretty much justify the cost over a standard SP-01.

If you don’t like the way it is sprung, springs are the cheap part. And it’s fun to learn about tuning.

Have fun.
