If money is not a factor, which one would you buy?

The HK seems to have a big fan base, but I like the looks of the Scorpion.

If you have a shop that has an MP five you ought to check it out.

The MP five has a superb and long military track record. It has a lot of cool points because of that. And it shoots softer because of the roller delayed action.

To me, though, the manual of arms with no bolt hold open feature and because the trigger really kind of stinks out of the box and to me it seems like working the bolt is harder. Thus, the scorpion is for me.

True, but they 'gave up' the roller delayed advantage - hence why I believe the Scorpion is such a good deal.

And unless you buy in to the 'your gun's gonna blow up son' its a great buy. 

I can tell you, having handled a real HK and a $1500 clone I found the bolt stiff to actuate and coupled with the fact that you MUST lock it back PRIOR to the mag change, I did not like it.  Also, the trigger is easier to make very good to excellent on the Scoprion for peanuts AND the safety is a ton easier to make right.

Then there are the magazines.  The CZ has the best combination of reliability/ease of loading (curved design) and cost.


So while I was serious about liking the MP5, I'd rate the Scorpion better for most folks.

Well, money is a factor: the semi auto HK MP5 is @ $3400, a PTR Clone is @ $2000. You might be able to get a Turkish clone for less. Though roller delayed blowback turns a full auto MP5 into a soft shooting bullet hose, I don’t think it matters that much in semi auto vs. straight blowback — unless you’re running a suppressor?…though I am interested in how the Nexus Scorpion receiver with the ball bearing roller delay shakes out.

The UMP is a pale shadow of a MP5. The UMP sucks in semi, it sucks in auto. It sucks, then it blows.

You can get a Turkish MP5 (AP5/AP5sd/etc) for just under $1,000. I have an AP5, which looks great and shoots well. That puts it in the same cost realm as the Scorpion. The factory trigger even sucks as much as a Scorpion's trigger.

The MP5 has the classic cool factor, but everything is expensive or very expensive. Magazines are $35 for MKE versions or $80 for HK. It's very smooth compared to a straight blowback.

The Scorpion has a lot more modern features, like lrbho and easy optic mounting. Magazines are much cheaper and there's lots of aftermarket support.

For the cost of a SP5, you can own both.
