Re: Battery life for Burris FF3 3 moa

I have a question about battery life on a carry gun.  I have accidentally left the red dot on for few days with apparently very little battery drain.  Do you guys who carry with a red dot just leave it on all the time?  If so, how long will the battery left with the sight set on auto brightness?

I just moved one of mine to the P-07.  Videos later.

Well, the FF III battery life is supposed to be 10,000 hours. That's a year and a few months+ of steady on time. You could probably safely leave it on year round and just change the battery once a year.

I am seriously considering selling my SP-01 with CGW guts to fund a P-09/07 with an optic... man... I should...

Any word on the durability of the Vortex Razor? I fondled one at the local fun shop and I initially thought it felt like a tank. If they would have let me, I would have chucked it at their safe to see if it stayed on. I like and dislike that the buttons are on top inside of the hood area vs on the side of the optic. This seems like a good and bad thing at the same time.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

Thanks.  Battery life seems to be almost the shelf life of the batteries if I turn it off.  Not much change when I leave it on, it seems.   But I haven't left it on for more than a few days at a time.  I carry spare batteries and have had to use them.  If it goes on and off once without touching the buttons, it's time!

I also removed a stubborn firing pin retaining pin from a slide without taking the sight off because I was in a hurry.  That didn't affect the Burris either.  They seem pretty tough, my only complaint is that the lens isn't as clear as an Ultradot Micro HD.

Can't wait to get my FF3 and Slide back from Primary Machine. I am a USPSA competitor and shoot as often as possible. I started with the FF3 on a springer mount. Worked superbly. Mount was very nice and rock solid. Sight had about 8k rounds down range with zero issues. I sighted the pistol in exactly once and have been dead on ever since. I decided to have the slide milled just to drop the FF3 down that last little bit, mostly for aesthetics.
I have been shooting Carry Optics for a few months and absolutely love it. I have also carried my P-09 concealed this winter with the dot and found it to be totally do able.

I have the Speinger mount and FF3 on my P09 too. So far I'm loving it. My first RDS in a pistol. It really highlights my shakey hold. :)

I never did get comfortable enough in dry-fire with my P-09 using a Burris FF3 on a Springer dovetail mount to ever shoot it at a match, but having a milled slide makes a huge difference for me.  I'm going to use my Urban Grey P-07 with a multi-optic cut P-07 Duty slide from CZ Custom at a match in two weeks and I'm actually excited. ;D  I installed a CZ Custom 10mm height tritium front sight that I can line up with the vertical line on the back of the FF3 for a pseudo co-witness/BUIS (similar to XS Big Dot sights) which also gives me an alignment point of reference to find the dot quicker on those strong-hand only and weak-hand only transitions. :o  I can use this complete upper on either of my two P-07s, which makes it very versatile.

My very first shot with the new upper at 10 yards using just the front sight lined up with the back of the FF3 (red dot turned off):
