Advice and experience with Shadow 2
« on: December 10, 2019, 06:01:11 PM »
I am considering buying my first CZ, probably a Shadow 2.  I know exactly zero about them.  Never shot one.  In fact I have shot almost no 9 mm, and its been a few years.  I shoot several 1911s in 45 ACP in various matches. I generally work over the triggers to get a very clean break in the range of 2.5 to 3 pounds, short reset, etc.  I do pretty much all my own work on 1911s (and Ruger 22s) and am happy with their performance.

I am wondering about the factory trigger on Shadow 2. What does it break at out of the box?  Do folks like it as it comes, or does it require reworking to get a crisp light pull trigger? Can the DIY wanna-be gunsmith work on it?  Or does it require special tooling, etc to work on?  I've heard that SA/DA are hard to get good triggers.  Just asking.

Thanks for the help

It's a great handgun out of the box.  I have two of them, and the triggers on both do not need any additional work.

Today I was able to fondle and dry fire a Shadow 2.  I like everything about the gun: weight, grip angle, sights, and so on.  The trigger pull didn’t seem high (didn’t have my fish scale with me) and it broke crisply. However travel seemed long, and the reset was very long.  Maybe just something to get used to, since is SA/DA.

This doesn't sound right.  I have two shadows (not Shadow 2s) and both reset shorter than any of my 8 1911s.  I mean so much shorter I tested it over and over trying to make sense of how it reset so short.

Regarding the travel - I certainly wouldn't call it long.

I think it depends what you are comparing the Shadow 2s trigger with. I would agree with the OP that the reset is very long. I have a Shadow 2 with stock trigger and compared to a couple of my 2011s and a TSO, the reset on the S2 is LONG. However, compared to friends' stock Glocks, the S2 stock trigger is much nicer and has a much shorter reset.

I have a shadow 2. It's a great pistol as is out of box but mine does have some creep in the trigger. SA pull is probably about 3 lbs. Reset is longer than my 1911 but not a lot, I don't notice it.

I also have a PCR that CGW did a pro package on that has a glass break crisp trigger, can't help but believe CGW can do same for shadow 2.

All in all my like my shadow 2 more than any other pistol i own despite the creep (which I will fix eventually).

From what i gather no two of them are exactly alike..

Love my S2,  but coming from 1911s I had to SA mine. Installed the CGW SA trigger and floating pin and other than a strange part falling out when I removed the safety (right side rear...ended up figuring out it was the safety locking piece that just sits in the frame rail guides and indexes on the right side safety lever's groove) and trouble installing the sear cage (hammer was pushed too far forward and would not allow the sear cage to fit into it's recess fully) I love the conversion. Adjusted it to almost zero slack/creep and a miniscule reset. Once you take up all the slack/creep with the adjusting screws it easily equals my best 10-8 flat triggered 1911 (Wilson). Think glass rod breaking AND this is without any polishing of any internal parts.
