New Scorpion Owner
« on: September 21, 2024, 10:47:15 PM »
I recently purchased a used CZ Scorpion micro. It was sold to me as a 3 plus. When I got it home I noticed a couple of things the side says CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 and the lower appears to be a 3 plus lower (since it has the ar style mag release). I've shot it well over 500 rounds and run like a champ.

My question is: Did the early 3 plus model say Evo 3 S1 on the side or is this a hybrid of some sort?

Thanks in advance.

The lowers between the 3+ and the Evo 3 are supposedly interchangeable between their respective uppers. A 3+ should say “CZ Scorpion 3 Plus” on the left half of the upper receiver.

Maybe you got a mix-master Frankengun from somebody who didn’t want to have to buy a bunch of the new 3+ AR-type magazines but wanted the 3+ upper and  hand guard, which in some ways is understandable. Some people actually prefer the old “AK” style mag release to the new AR15 type.

Have you got any pics?

If I knew how to add a picture I would.

Looks like you have an Olive Drab Evo 3 with a 3+ lower, since the upper is the serialized component. Whoever sold it to you probably has a black 3+ with a OD Evo 3 lower.

I’m not sure what hand guard you have.

I’m fairly certain the handguard is HB Industries.

Thank you for your input.

Yes, the lowers are interchangeable.

I would GUESS that some would want a new 3+ lower in order to have an "AR 15 like" manual of arms which I can understand.  The bolt release is also a tad easier to deal with and you only have to nudge the tab forward with the trigger finger to activate.

But... the best mags are Magpul, and they will NOT drop free from the 3+ - why I went the other way and ditched my 3+ lower and put on a 3.

The other thing is that if you index your firing finger hard enough when not firing, you can accidently release the mag.

I guess it depends on personal preference. Having one of each, 3+ and Evo 3, I prefer the AR-type lower receiver and the 3+ CZ factory mags.

Problem is, it’s usually very hard to find the lowers and internal parts of either in stock anywhere. From what I’m seeing, to buy a new lower and internal parts for either would cost @ $300 to $500 — if you could even find all that in stock, which is not likely.

So… if anyone out there wants to swap their assembled 3+ lower for an Evo 3 assembled lower and CZ 3+ 30-rd mags for Magpul 35 round mags (many brand new in the plastic wrap), I’m game!!!

What would a Scorpion like mine be worth realistically for insurance purposes.

Use the replacement cost.  Why come up short?
