Old Scorpion owner new Scorpion owner again...
« on: September 27, 2024, 02:56:16 PM »
I recently re-acquired a Scorpion that I'd sold to someone a while back, and I've got a couple of questions since I've been out of the Scorpion for a couple of years. It's a EVO 3 S1 with a good number of modifications to it.

First question is on the mags. I know that the original mags are basically junk, most of the ones I had ended up with cracked feed lips, with one exploding on me when I picked the gun up, raining down 9mm all over the place, so those mags are out. This gun doesn't like PGS manticore mags but has always fed Magpuls and the PSA AK-V mags fine.

The question I have is whether any of the newer mags have also had feed lip issues, specifically the newer EVO 3+ mags. I'd like to know which are OK to leave loaded long-term.

Second question I have is about the striker block. I'm aware of the OOB issues, and while my bolt looks great and I've never experienced issues with this gun, I did notice that the striker block sits flush (I know it should be slightly elevated above the bolt), and the striker appears to move freely enough even when the block isn't depressed. I did order a Nexus striker block, and am wondering if that's likely to fix the issue. I'm not using a binary or bump.

Also what is going on with CZ USA? Are they going away, or what?

Thanks for any info.

New 3+ mags are GTG, but for the 3+ they are blind (unless that's changed).  Mags are not fwd compatible.

MP mags are great, cheap and fit/feed in the 3+ but don't drop free.

ETS mags - 30 work, and 40 not so much.

I've never tried the Manticore mags.

I just make sure my FPS works.  That's all.

I haven’t had any issues with the BLACK OEM CZ Scorpion mags, they’re the best of the bunch from what I’ve seen. However, the CLEAR CZ OEM mags, have a reputation for being brittle / lousy. I don’t think the clear OEM mags are even made anymore.

Haven’t had any issues with the striker block. Was the previous owner using a binary trigger?

What’s wrong with CZ USA? Colt Management is the problem, they’re the King Midas of caca.

MAYBE CZ USA retained ALL of its leadership and booted the dopes from Colt.

However, we've seen some dumb going in so maybe not - or its just the vagaries of mergers.

I was part of a merger where the larger company supposedly merged, and the smaller, better company was to retain more leadership.  In the end, it was only a shell till it was sold again 2 years later and enough of the bums stayed long enough to trash the merged company for a time.  They were eventually booted, but they made life harder for enough folks.  I left and praise be for that.

Mergers are hard.

Of course I was being facetious.  Yes, so stupid not to remove the cancer.
