Extremely rare FTE.... ammo problem?
« Reply #15 on: May 11, 2005, 06:14:16 AM »
It happens with everything.  The first 1000 rounds I put through the pistol were commercial reloads, mixed headstamp.

I put about 4 boxes of PMC through, and had FTE problems (yes, FTE on PMC)

I've just finished 1000 rounds of 124 grain winchester white box, and the FTE problem was unacceptable.

It's not like I can choose which ammo I shoot.  This is Canada, and you shoot what's set before you, here.

Like I said, the enw extractor is on the way.  If that doesn't work, I try a new ejector.  If that doesn't work, I join www.berettaforums.com :)

Statistically, if I shot an IPSC match with this, I'd have a stoppage every stage.

As luck would have it, you've picked about the poorest ammo available for reliability...  <sigh>.

Have a gunsmith look at the gun --  it may end up costing less than a new extractor.

The extra power extractor spring almost always cures the extraction problems but I have come across a few 9mm barrels with rough chambers all marked 04 but the barrels may have been manufactured well before that.  I polished out the chambers and that cleared up the extraction problems.  All CZ and their clones should have the Wolff extra power springs IMHO, it is just good insurance.  If you don't need other springs and don't want to pay a lot for shipping for one spring we sell them for $4.50ea post paid.

My 85 combat has been performing poorly lately. Attended the IPSC Nationals in Fredericton(Canada) and had several jams/FTE's each stage...attended another local shoot on 14 Aug and had the same problem..had some partial extractions and some where the spent casing was still fully in the chamber...Have since tried the same ammo ( and I tried several different types on hand,[rnlead124gr, 147gr Win white box, 124 plated fn] without problem in a friend's Glock 17).

I too think it is the extractor and gave it back to the dealer to have it repaired by the CZ importer.  What a way to find out about the problem....imagine your frustration.  Although I will probably keep it, I have hopes for my new Glock 17 which I received on the weekend. cheers
