C&R alternative to CZ82
« on: January 12, 2015, 07:24:50 PM »
I keep hoping to find a CZ82 for my first CZ firearm, but I'm having a hard time finding one.

I've recently developed a love for old weapons.  Are there any other Curio & Relic alternatives to the CZ82 or CZ83?

The Makarov is a fine pistol, and the Radom P64 is a great little shooter (albeit with a tough trigger pull) - they are both chambered in 9x18mm.

However ... I am not sure there really is any 'alternative' to a CZ82 in a C&R pistol.  The CZ82 almost stands by itself in my book.

Keep looking.  They are out there, but it seems that they are so well liked that I rarely see one for sale by an individual.  I guess most folks that have one want to keep it.  As 9x18mm Makarov ammo becomes harder to find in the USA, you will probably see more CZ82's for sale, but that does not help you now.  I have not seen any in stock at AIM, SOG, J&G, or Classic Firearms for quite a while either.

Your best bets may be GunBroker or cruising pawnshops.  If you find a CZ82 at a decent price, be prepared to pull the trigger, so to speak.  It may not remain available for long.

I sold one in each of the last two Octobers for right at $270 a piece, with two magazines.  Neither one had a flawless finish, but they were both excellent shooters.

Good luck, and remember:  Perseverance furthers.

Just found this CZ82 in a GunBroker search: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=462644583#PIC.

Two days left in the auction with a 'current' bid of $255.  I know nothing about the seller, but these pistols are still available if you keep looking.

I tore the world apart a couple of months ago looking for a good, solid, excellent condition CZ 83 and found the good ones going for $400+FFL/tax/s&h, etc.,  with the entire male population of the country jumping on the auctions in the last hour and running the prices up to radical levels. Really nice '82's were also in the $400 asking range. Junky looking 82's and '83's were still much too high once you got past the FFL fees and shipping, and the ads were less than helpful in the amount of information they gave about the guns. Unless you can stumble into an unusually sweet deal with a local private party, I think you're up the creek where good, serviceable 82's and '83's are concerned. But read on:

So, I finally gave up and made a choice I like very much - a TriStar C100 in 9mm. These are also made in the .380 caliber, and are no longer being imported, BUT this guy still has some at a good price:http://www.larrysgunsmithing.com/Tristar-C-100-380-ACP-P00206.htm?categoryId=-1

I suspect that TriStar can still get the .380 mags for you, but you might want to call and ask before buying. If you're interested in one of these .380's I'd jump on it. It's the only supply I can find anywhere on the internet and $372 is a great price. Best of luck.

Stick with it.  I own a CZ-82 beater and a Bulgarian Makarov PM (Circle 10) that's absolutely pristine.  Love 'em both.  But I had to choose, I'd take the CZ-82 without question.  The best I've ever owned for accuracy and reliability.  There is no experience that compares with shooting a CZ-82.

Check out Armslist.  You'll sometimes see a CZ-82 selling at a reasonable price.  J&G Sales seems to sporadically have them in stock as well, so watch them closely.

Best of luck with your hunt.  It'll be worth the wait.

And, so far as the supply of 9x18 in the States...I can go to gunbot.net and buy all I want for 25 cents per round (plus shipping, which drives it up to 27 or 28 cents).  That being said, I'd stack it high and deep while it's still out there.

UPDATE:  Here's one for sale right now for $280.  Contact the seller, about whom I know nothing.  Maybe you can convince him to ship it for a few bucks?  http://www.armslist.com/posts/3851842/fayetteville-north-carolina-handguns-for-sale--cz-82---9x18-makarov---vg-condition----1--12rnd-magazine

Sacrilege, I know, but actually I prefer the Radom P64 (with an aftermarket hammer spring!)

This is not to say anything against the CZ-82 - just that there are others out there that won't disappoint while you wait....

What is the poundage of the after-market spring you're using, and do you get light primer strikes?  How many rounds have you shot with the new spring?  I would like both a P-64 and a CZ82.

Um....the CZ82 is C&R .  Page 22 on the list. It's ok. Even the FFL I bought mine from didn't realize it was listed.  Mine is a 1990.  Bought on my ffl03.
As to the requirement of 50 yrs old plus. Or historic significance.
Story as I know it. Is that a fan of this firearm somewhere got the curator of a museum to write a letter to BATFE proclaiming historic Cold War significance. On the list!
Still a fair amount of these out there.  The price of any gun to me is just my psychological threshold.  I already invested invested a couple hundred bucks in ammo and range fees on this $300 gun alone.

I guess I should have phrased that as "What's a different C&R alternative....".

No worries though. I ended up with a CZ83 from SOG in .380 and I love it!

I don't recall. I got the multiple Wolff spring pack from gunsprings.com.  It wasn't the lightest or the heaviest spring in the pack, if that helps.  No light strikes, but the single-action is pretty much a hair-trigger now.

You should get both.  Very different, but both are excellent guns.
