CZ 241

New guy
I came here because I have come into possesion of a very nice unmolested CZ 241 20 gauge.
I know nothing about these and found it difficult finding anything about them, my search lead me to this forum where I discovered what I had and a little bit about them. I am trying to decide what to do with this shotgun, any suggestions?

Thank you

Jim

Buy some ammo and go shot it.

Thanks for that, really couldn't figure out how to purchase 2 9/16 long 20 gauge ammo. Ya must have a source for these hard to find shells perhaps you care to share your source?

Thank you

Hey Jim,

Unfortunately there is no (readily available) source for 2 9/16 ammo in any guage.  I have searched for years and though some will tell you that Kent manufactures this ammo, I have had no luck in securing a source.  The one time that I found some 2 9/16 ammo the cost made it very undesireable.  I did find a reasonable source for 2 1/2" ammo but be aware that this will solve the chamber problem but you will have a single shot, as overall case length is not long enough to make the mechanical feed mechanism of the gun work properly.  I have resigned myself to loading for all of my 241s, which is time consuming and still not a cheap proposition.  The process has to start with brand new plastic hulls as they must be trimmed to length.  The middle part of the loading process is typical, prime, dump powder, wad, shot charge, but then you must place a card top wad followed by a roll crimp (which requires a special tool) and is best done in a drill press.  I have had very good results with this ammo but the process takes more time than cranking-out 2 3/4" ammo on a MEC press.

You also have the option of http://www.rockymountaincartridge.com/  Not cheap but they can make them the length you  need.
I guess the question becomes how much do you plan on shooting the CZ? Hunting loads will be no problem but sounds like a PIA if you plan on running a lot through it.

Thank you Painter!  I'm giving it a try right now.  So if this works I will be posting a picture of part of my CZ 241 collection.

Well, I see the link.  Hopefully it shows-up as a picture when I post.

Thanks again Painter, looks like it worked.  For anyone who is interested, I posted a couple short video clips on YouTube of 241 testfiring after repair.  One vid is with 2 9/16" ammo (original barrel) and the other vid is with 2 3/4" ammo using a barrel that I rechambered and modified the ejector in.  I am currently restoring a 16ga 241 that I picked-up, and making a custom slug barrel to use on another one of mine.  I also have dreamt-up a removeable scope mount for the 241's, just haven't had the time to prototype it yet.
