Thinking about scope and ring setup. My 58 year old eyes tell me a scope is needed big time.Just for squirrels and plinking

You might be able to make use of aperture sights Doc.

My 63 year old eyes do pretty well with them astigmatism and all.

They're less money and look better than scopes IMO.

but not the ability.

I have a sightron 2-7x35 rimfire scope and a set of BKL high rings on my 452 trainer. For a lower priced set up I am very happy. A nice weaver rimfire scope would fit the bill grate too but at a little more cost than the sightron. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/638627/sightron-si-hunter-rimfire-rifle-scope-2-7x-35mm-crosshair-reticle-matte

I have a Nikon and a Weaver Rimfire scope.....like both of them.  Weaver looks best of the rifle.  I also use BKL rings.
Shooting with my kids and grandkids....that is a fine time.

I use an adapter to go to standard rings. Using a 500 series BKL, http://www.bkltech.com/Dovetail-to-Weaver-Picatinny-Adaptor-Mounts-s/7.htm, but DIP, http://www.diproductsinc.com/products.aspx?CAT=3600, makes a nice style. Going this way you have greater variety of rings and heights to use or already have laying around.

My favorite scopes are a Burris 3-9 or a Leopold vx-1 3-9. They match what I use on my center fire hunting rifles so sight view and scope adjustments all stay the same when I'm in the field. I'm not about looks too much. If you are target shooting a scope with an adjustable or fixed 50yard parallax is a nice option. The Leopold was sent to the factory and reset at 50.

Some shooters have issues with check weld due to the hogback stock. I use a stock pack and love it.

(With a Bushnell 4-12 adj parallax scope I was playing around with)

+1!  For the price of a scope & rings I acquired a refurbished BRNO Olympic style sight set for my Ultra Lux and couldn't be happier.  The aperture sight sits way lower than a scope can, which is a huge plus with the hogback stock.  I use a straight-combed 453  American for shooting with optics instead.

I have a 452 Trainer too. I've gone the entire circle of experimenting with various sights and came back to the simple tangent sights. I guess I should've kept it simple to begin with.

I first bought BRNO sights and liked them but not enough to keep them. (I KNOW I'm in the minority there!) I sold them and then bought a Clearidge 3-9 Ultra and mounted it with Burris Signature mediums. This really worked well and cleared the bolt fine. But in the end, I longed for simplicity. The rear tangent sight is so easy to flip from 50 to 100 yards it spoiled me!

I'm thinking of selling off my scope and rings and simply sticking with the basics. I love how the rifle's stock is perfect for the iron sights!

I am far sighted and I can still see 20/20 at distance (past my arms length). Anything closer everything is blurred but it still allows me to use the rear sight although just a LITTLE blurred but front sight ok.

But out of the two alternatives to the tangent sights, I preferred the scope.

I use the CZ medium rings with a Weaver K4 4X scope. It fits and looks great on my 452. Really makes the accuracy of the 452 show.
