If it did work, it might make the gun less conceable...
I don?t think this is a big issue to folks looking into Pearce extensions anyway, they don?t do much for concealability.

Personally I liked shooting the RAMI with the modified Pearce extension, but didn?t like how it carried.  I am all for having them on my extra mags, but when I carried the RAMI, I either went with the factory short mag or all out with the factory extended mag.

.....And, of course, they sell several different lengths to accommodate different sized pinkies. And the machined aluminum base pads stay on and don't break.

I liked the look of the left one from the CZ site (link provided above), but did not know how to order it.  I called CZ.  The guy with whom I spoke told me the left one would, indeed fit the RAMI magazine, but once installed, the mag will no longer fit my RAMI.  This does not seem to agree with your description of the factory aftermarket mag pads.  What am I to believe?

CZ itself doesn't have anything to do with these base pads, which are mfg. and sold by CZ CUSTOM, which is a separate company.

The one I cited absolutely does fit the Rami as well as others that may or may not accommodate the step down for the backstrap on the Rami mag well. You'd just have to look to see which ones will fit (the ones that increase mag capacity probably don't fit the Rami or would make them illegal in slave states). Of course, the ones that don't accommodate the step down most likely can be filed down to fit, and I personally would trust a machined aluminum base pad (or the polymer ones listed made specifically for a CZ75-type mag) over an aftermarket plastic piece made for another weapon.

But to each his own, if you're more comfortable with the modded Pearce piece for the XD, then go for it. The OP was asking for alternatives to that set up because of the problems associated with it.

Modified Pearce extensions don't pop off if you use the right extension the correct part is PG-XD 2003. I have several that I've used for years with no problems.

I just prefer to extend the pinky, sophisticated-style or most often just curl it under the mag.  Works great!

I must admit that the pinky extension designed into Beretta's PX4sc is pretty cool, but it really isn't needed for SD purposes.  Both handguns are heavy enough where recoil with 147 gr HSTs is quite manageable, IMO.

Strange, there doesn't seem to be any reference to that part number on the Pearce website.
