Options for RAMI "pinky" extension???
« on: December 24, 2017, 09:18:03 AM »
Been researching for the past few days trying to find some sort of pinky extension for the RAMI 10 round mags and all I am coming up with is the modified Pearce extensions and the extended 14 round mag sleeve (neither of which I like). Am I missing any other options??? Thanks for any info.

I've had great luck with these extensions:  https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253325477527

Those would be the modified pearce extensions. I've read that some users have issues with these which is why I was hoping to find other options.

Thanks for the link though.

...and just what are these issues with Pearce modified extensions ?
I have mine and it works great. I also know of no other design for RAMI.

Curious, too, about reported issues.  I've got one on each of my 10r mags and use my RAMI for both EDC and IDPA w/o issue.  And, IDPA isn't exactly "friendly" to mags.

I have had no problems with my Pearce modified mag extensions. Have them on all my 10 round magazines.

To get the Springfield XD Pearce floor plates to fit, you have to file them down, which weakens them to the point that they can easily pop off in an instant and dump all your rounds and magazine innards on the ground -- not a good thing to happen, especially when the SHTF.

These magazine base pads from CZ Custom are made of machined aluminum, purpose built for CZ magazines and are much better made, more secure, durable and cost about the same as jury-rigged plastic Pearce extensions:

https://czcustom.com/cz-75-flush-fitting-aluminium-base-pad-silver.html

Definitely the way to go compared to the (flimsy) modded Pearce plastics. They also sell several other similar CZ-specific aluminum competition base pads of various lengths to suit your needs:

Thank you MeatAxe...very much appreciated.

To everyone else...I believe MeatAxe cleared up what I was referring to with the Pearce extensions which is why i asked for other options.

That is all true and good, except that these aluminum, base pads do not and would not serve the same purpose as the modified Pearce extension, and that is to provide support for your pinky. Might as well use the factory RAMI 10 rd magazine floor plate (extension) which is obviously too short to serve its purpose.

Incidentally, losing your mag load as the result of failure of the new, unmodified Pearce extension is not all that rare. It happened to me on Kahr MK 9 pistol and it has been reported on others. The manufacturer claims it was a result of "overloading" the mag or using a differently rated magazine spring.

I guess it would depend on how it fits one's individual "pinky." That aluminum base pad I linked from CZ custom works great for me, gives me a comfortable flat spot to rest my pinky, unlike the stock plastic base pad with its sharp edge that bites into the meat of my pinky. And, of course, they sell several different lengths to accommodate different sized pinkies. And the machined aluminum base pads stay on and don't break.

If the Pierce extensions break on someone, then it's probably because they filed off too much plastic. Mine are rock solid, and have a ton of plastic still providing support.

The trick is to use shims when filing them down. I cut three strips of some aluminum plate I had left over, and cut them to size to fit into the grip extension. Then I filed away the plastic above the shims until the plastic lip was flush with the shims. It's a proper fit with enough plastic left over to provide good support.

Well, for my time and money, I wouldn't take the chance on the Pearce extensions, not even for a range toy. My RAMI is my primary EDC and SHTF pistol, so I wouldn't put anything dodgy on it regardless of the cost and for me, the time spent modding a piece to get it to make fit is much more valuable than the extra price of the CZ Custom piece (@ $1 per base pad).

The CZ Custom machined aluminum base pads are rock solid and cost about the same as the modded Pearce pieces anyway.

I liked the look of the left one from the CZ site (link provided above), but did not know how to order it.  I called CZ.  The guy with whom I spoke told me the left one would, indeed fit the RAMI magazine, but once installed, the mag will no longer fit my RAMI.  This does not seem to agree with your description of the factory aftermarket mag pads.  What am I to believe?

In defense of CZ, nowhere in their ad for aluminum extensions is there any mention that they would fit RAMI pistols, furthermore, nowhere in this forum and other fora dedicated (among other guns) to CZ, can you find a reference to aluminum magazine extensions.

Don't get me wrong; I was not denigrating CZ.  I thought this mag pad might be nice.  I called, and they just told  me it would not work.  If it did work, it might make the gun less conceable.  ( not a real word, apparently.)  Which would not be a good thing.  After all, this is a carry gun; not a target or police service gun.  One must make some compromises.
