Yes, I sent the rail and red dot to a gunsmith.

Nice. Please post a photo once you get it back.

I just switched my stock adapter to the CSA, which is slightly angled. Now I can actually use my irons. In order to 1/3 co-witness, I am going to have the Leica red dot mounted directly to the upper rail without any kind of mount. That way it will sit lower.

How are you doing that? Are you getting the rail machined for it?

The upper rail is finally done, it spent 3 months at the gunsmith. My Leica Tempus red dot now mounts directly to the upper rail placing it in the lowest possible position which enables co-witnessing.

Here is a comparison of a typical Bonesteel Arms upper rail and my which has been modified:

Looks great.

My only concern is how that reflex sight will fare in drop tests, etc.  Other makes have exoskeletons, shields, etc, to help protect since I don't think that lens would survive if dropped on concrete, etc, and that's a $500+ optic.  But maybe I'm wrong!

The sight came with a hard plastic shield but I left it off for the pictures.

Yeah, that plastic though I think is more of sunshade.  The lens/its frame still takes all the force.

I was talking more about something like any of these exoskeletons/wings/protective mounts etc -- no idea if any are made for/compatible w/ the Leicas or not.

And it wasn't criticism -- just me noting I'd be worried about breaking a $600 optic if dropped or roughly handled, albeit perhaps needlessly...

Nevermind then -- looks like you have it covered.  Are the Leica's mounting holes similar to other micro red dots/reflexes?

The mounting pattern matches Docter Red Dot. The Leica Tempus red dot was intended to compete with Docter.
