buffalo bore 147 grain (update)
« on: October 24, 2018, 11:12:45 PM »
Hello Folks!

I shot a box of the Buffalo Bore 147 grain Outdoorsman thru my RAMI. No problem cycling. Accurate. Recoil was totally fine.

Only thing is if you need to eject a live round, they are sort of stuck in there. You have to really snap the slide to dislodge it. I guess the big slugs get a little engagement in the throat.

I haven?t tried the specific round you?re mentioning, but I?ve run Underwood +P Extreme Penetrators through mine with the same idea as you. Predators in the Mountain West, nothing like Grizzlies....

Let us know how it goes.  My Rami swallows 147gr FMJ,  Fed HST 147 and now in small doses, Fed HST+ 147 without issue.  When new, it was not liking standard pressure 147 (my preferred SD) so it went back to the factory and they made it right.  I guess I would recommend ensuring  it swallows std 147gr first, before trying the Buffalo load.

Know your bear sign by its scat.  Black bear poop will have a mix of fur, berries, grass, etc.  Grizzly bear poop will sometimes contain little jingle bells, whistles and smell like pepper spray. :)

A can of bear spray will probably be a lot more effective than any handgun caliber in a defensive situation.

I don't have any experience either shooting animals defensively or using spray. I do have a lot of experience with mothers, and my first reaction is I am not sure I trust pepper spray against a mother bear.  I have read conflicting things on this subject. I am open to new information.

I will add to the conversation that Wifey does carry bear spray when we walk together.

Bear specific spray will do way more than a 9mm would. For black bear you start at .357mag and work your way up. Shoot at the chest because unless you hit them in the eye your bullet has a very good chance to ricochet off the skull. Yes they are that tough.

?..and fast too!  I second the .357 minimum plus a good, slick holster.  Did I mention they are fast?
