Selling a gun on vacation

I am going to see a dying friend in Indiana who wants to get his wife a gun for home protection when he is gone and she really likes the P07 but because of all the medical costs they have there is nothing left to buy any gun. I have a P07 that I am willing to give them for free to help my buddies peace of mind and allow them both time to get familiar with it before he does pass on. So this is my problem I have concealed carry license in Michigan that allows me to carry in Indiana also, so I am wondering if when I go to visit them if it is legal for me to take this P07 with me and meet with an FFL there can I in fact give my friends this gun or do I have to use an FFL here in Michigan to send it to an FFL there? I will do whatever it takes to get them this gun I'm just trying to save us both money since there will be no money exchanged for the gun.

I recommend calling the FFL where you want to do the transfer and asking them.

If you?re licensed in Indiana, then you should be able to go to an FFL in Indiana and have them transfer it.

you should be able to take it to an FFL in IN yourself and have them do the transfer (4473 and all) to your friend. Many (maybe even most) FFLs accept incoming shipments from out of state non-FFLs (as long as shipped correctly). A walk in should be easy for them to handle. I have done two of this type of transfer on the buyer side of the equation.

As eastman said, as long as the FFL will accept a transfer from an individual you should be fine. Usually this means an individual ships it to him. In your case, a walk-in should be much easier for him. Just clear it ahead of time with whoever you wish to use. Beyond that should be pretty easy/straightforward.

Although your friend's wishes for his wife are well intended, owning a gun is not the same thing as successfully using a gun. And exactly who will be there to practice with her, etc. And let's not even get started with all the legal ramifications.

Instead, I highly suggest you get her a Kimber Pepper Blaster which costs about $35 on Amazon...
? It requires no training other than point and pull the trigger.
? She can carry it anywhere she goes. Malls, school grounds, etc.
? If she gets scared and fires on the meter reader one afternoon, in 15 minutes he'll make a complete recovery.
? A lot of attackers can get close enough to disarm a woman. With CS she can fire first and let the cops sort it out the mess later. You can't do that with a gun.
? She can order more if she feels the need. One for the car, one for the purse, one for the bedroom, etc.
? She won't need to live in mortal fear of a child finding the weapon. If there are children or grandchildren around, you and I both know the gun is going into the top of the closet, never to be seen again. Certainly never to be available within 90 seconds.
? The item home intruders want most is handguns. Simply owning a handgun may precipitate the very act she's in fear of experiencing.


A handgun is great for you and me, but we have years invested in practice, learning the law, getting licensed, doing the drills, etc, etc. But a handgun is a terrible thing to give the average housewife. Especially since the serial number will be traceable to you.

The Kimber Pepper Blaster is the only CS delivery device that can sit and wait for years.

Well said Wobbly.  Is she a gun girl?

Since Michigan still has its own registration system youll want keep a bill of sale for evidence should something happen in the future.  A Michigan buyer is obligated to register, I don't believe the seller need do anything upon transfer but the bill of sale will cover your butt.  You may need to do some research on State law.

I hope her state of mind is sound, no suicidal thoughts from the grief; no inclination for hubby to want to be mercy killed...  I'm not liking the idea of just transferring a gun as Wobbly stated.  Maybe a friend needs to take her to a range first, etc.

I want to thank everyone for their help first of all. Also to answer Wobbly and Tyerone's questions or reply the answer is my friend's wife already has her concealed license in the state of Indiana and there are some long guns in that home in a safe. She has been around guns as long as I have known her which is over 14 years. She is also a very proficient shot with long guns from rifles to shotguns. That being said I feel confident that she is and will be safe with these guns. I totally understand everyone's concern about suicide or accidents happening but I know that they already have the means to do or commit said acts with the weaponry currently in their home. The only reason I have offered to help is because I have lots of handguns and tend to buy duplicates of ones I really like which is also why I may give her a Rami instead of the P07. We all know it is also a very bad idea to pick out anyone else's gun for them and with the Rami if she doesn't like it I am pretty sure she should be able to trade it for almost any other gun she wants to carry with little or no out of pocket cost.

This is really simple, if you have the gun with you...They can pay for it or if you are tying to pass the gun to them....all the is left is to stop by an FFL place, pay the ffl transfer fee and have the gun registered in your friend's wife's name and its her's...

if its not with you then its almost the same process. you'll have to ship it to the FFL AND HE WILL TAKE CARE OF THE REST.
