Veterans Day observance in Prague 2

Very nice equipment display and ceremony with the mayor of the Prague 2 district hosting. Mix of modern and historical. The troops were mostly active reserves. They didn?t speak a lot of English but enough with my lowly Czech to communicate with some. The one SFC took the bayonet out of the sheath to show me that the mark on the bayonet matched his unit patch (Central Czech Region of Active Reserves). This one was for the Bren. They also had the older version for the vz. 58.
As it was early when I went by, it wasn?t crowded so I had a chance to handle the Bren 2 a bit. It feels very comfortable and lighter than the older version; quickly brought up to shoulder with good point-ability. The operating lever looks short but has a shorter throw and positive click through the three positions than the older Bren. The bolt release inside the trigger guard used a vertical motion to release the bolt so a bit distinctive from the trigger pull motion. The left side receiver bolt release worked just like that on AR types. Really nice rifle. You?ll notice the Czechs mount the rear iron sight a little further forward than most US military rifles have set up. As you can see, the active reserves still use the vz. 58 and vz. 82 (holster on soldier in color guard).
The Spitfire display honors the Czechoslovaks who manned the 312 Squadron with the RAF in WW2.
