Recent Acquisition - P-07

I was at a local gun shop I had never been to before for picking up another firearm that had been shipped there for FFL transfer from IL when I saw this laying in the display case below, a "used" CZ P-07 with all original accessories included. I put "used" in quotation marks because I can find no evidence whatsoever the gun had ever been fired, it looks brand new without a scuff or scratch on it anywhere. The entire package, including the case looks brand new. Price was marked down from $399 to $369. I couldn't believe it!

After handling it some I knew it was for me. It fit my hand well and has a decent trigger and is the ideal size for CCW. I prefer hammer fired semi's over strikers so that is a big plus. After I got done with paying for my other firearm I didn't have enough cash to buy it outright so I asked if he would hold it for me for a while and he agreed with a small down payment. Two weeks later and she's all mine.

369$, that's not a bad deal, but I have seen new ones as low as $399 in the past.  Looks like it also included a couple of +2 extenders for the mags, which is nice.  The only issue is if it has any problems, you won't have a CZ warranty to rely on, since you bought it used.  Hopefully it has no problems and the warranty will be a non-issue for you.  If you plan to use it for carry or home defense, there are a couple of known reliability issues you can address with aftermarket parts, which you can read about in other threads here.

If the previous owner never registered it then it can be registered and the warranty still applies...I would register it and see if CZ kicks it back for being previously registered. Did that with a C-100 and it Tristar took it.

For all intents and purposes this is a brand new firearm. You wouldn't be able to tell it was used other then that the seal was broken on the case.

The LGS dealer says the guy who sold it to him is always buying, selling and trading firearms there and a lot of them look new when he takes them in. I saw several other used goodies there that were like new at very reasonable prices, probably from the same guy who had the P-07.

Regarding reliability issues, I am not seeing much about that on YouTube. The P-07 seems to be a pretty solid piece. Some were complaining about the older "Duty" model and I saw one vid were the full sized P-09 version had some jamming issues but most were raving about how good the latest model P-07 is.

I traded for P07 a couple of months ago... I went on CZ's web sight and registered the pistol.. it didn't get kicked back. I am a happy camper!

I went on CZ's website and it says this: "In the event that warranty work is needed, all that is required is a copy of your original sales receipt. Registration of our products is voluntary." Then it asks you to name the store where you purchased it and the date of purchase.

I don't have the original sales receipt. It may still work but I am leery of registering my gun with ANYONE, I don't care if it's the original manufacturer or not. You may find out that if the times comes when you need warranty work that CZ will not honor it since you bought it used. Then you would've registered your gun and put out that info online for no good reason.

I may just take my chances that the P-07 will just work. Any minor repairs it may need down the road can be handled by a smith if need be. It's a CZ. If I felt reliability was going to be an issue with this pistol I wouldn't have bought it.

The only handguns I ever sent back for warranty work were a Sig and a Colt, both costing around $1500 each while my CZ P-07 is just like the Energizer Bunny......go figure.  Congratulations on your purchase.

There are reliability issues with the firing pin retaining pin and the trigger return spring.  You can get more reliable replacements from CGW for a few dollars each.  If you were looking to improve the trigger with CGW's parts, you would also replace these parts in the process of doing that.

These issues aren't isolated to P-07 only... I think the retaining pin issue can occur in any CZ pistol with a firing pin block, and the trigger return spring is a common point of failure for DA pistols in general, but CZ had a batch of weak springs go into circulation with higher than average failure rates.

I personally never had an outright failure with either of my P-07's, but one I purchased in early 2018 did have a chunk of metal torn out of the retaining pin inside the firing pin channel, the first time I disassembled it, after a fairly modest amount of firing and dry-firing.

I've bought at least one brand new CZ (Compact, not a P07) that had a crushed in firing pin retaining pin.  Brand new.  I put a CGW retaining pin in it when I installed some other parts.

I carried and shot my P07 for about 5 years, with no issues, before I decided to go ahead and buy a few CGW reduced power trigger return springs and firing pin retaining pins and just replace all of them in the P07's and P09's.  Might not have been necessary, but it made me feel better.

Congrats on the ?new? P07.  It sounds like you did pretty well on that one.  My favorite winter carry gun is a P07 in .40.  If you live in a colder climate, that big, glove friendly trigger guard is a nice thing to have on a carry gun. 

My favorite sights for the P07s are the Night Fision sights.  It?s an HD style sight for about 2/3 the cost.  With a couple of bucks in CGW upgrades and a set of those sights, it?s hard to beat a P07 for EDC.

These are kind of the unsung hero?s of the CZ line.  Sure, a Shadow is sexier than the lowly P07, but it?s generally a P07 or P10 that rides in the holster lately for me.

Congratulations on your P-07 purchase! I've put over 500 rounds though mine without a single hiccup. It's so dependable that it's the pistol I chose to keep in my nightstand
